Your comments could apply to a number of referees

He is 4th best
Re: Referee confirmed for Liverpool game
Not a bad run of referees to be honest so far, I'd prefer the better refs against the teams we have a realistic chance if stuffing.
Just need Atkinson and Oliver for the Brighton, Norwichand Villa games, although hoping the latter continues in the way he looked for Villa v Everton however they weren't any of the big boys he usually likes to make mates with.

Kavanagh is better than Pawson but that’s not too difficult

Re: Referee confirmed for Liverpool game
Looking at recent weeks, I think it is more about who is the VAR Ref.
Re: Referee confirmed for Liverpool game
He's not bad given that some, quite a few in fact, are just rubbish.

I gather you know your refs!mdd2 wrote:A rolling stone would be better than Moss

Re: Referee confirmed for Liverpool game
Best 4 imo
Atkinson
Dean
Oliver
Kavanagh
Atkinson
Dean
Oliver
Kavanagh
Re: Referee confirmed for Liverpool game
I fully agree with that list and the order. ( Taylor in 5th )DAVETHEVICAR wrote:Best 4 imo

There's a few others that can be decent on their day, but are far too inconsistent far too often.
Then there's a lorry load of bang average at best
Then there's Moss and Mason

I would agree with the bottom 3 on your list Dave. Atkinson for me isn't as good as he was a couple of years ago.DAVETHEVICAR wrote:Best 4 imo

Mike Dean is top class.
Makes decisions based on what he sees and not what the Home team manager might say to him.

Re: Referee confirmed for Liverpool game
It doesn't matter any more because they can always rely on VAR to back them up. I notice that the Laws of the Game now state "if in the opinion of the referees" as far as games covered by VAR. The game is definitely going down the drain.
I am waiting for the day that an attacker hasn't left the area, by accident, because a keeper wants to take a quick goal kick but scuffs the ball and the said attacker gets on the ball and scores. It would be a goal but I can imagine the chaos which would follow.

There are many compelling arguments for binning off VAR.
Ashington’s sanity is certainly up there.

Have fun whilst worrying about things over which you have no control such as VAR and me!

Re: Referee confirmed for Liverpool game
It’s been a relatively quiet start for VAR, certainly where we are concerned.
Lord knows what you’ll be like if it livens up.
I understand people don’t like it and that’s fine and understandable but you even bang on about it on cricket threads.
Life will go on with it or without it.

Exactly! So why are you worrying about it?Bordeauxclaret wrote:It’s been a relatively quiet start for VAR, certainly where we are concerned.

It is giving the media and the modern fan exactly what they want and there are plenty of games to watch that will not have it.
I am at liberty to say what I want about it and I don't compel anyone to read what I say or to agree with what I say.
You need to attend some seminars relating to development of referees and hear what is said to realise just where the game is going.
The Laws of the Game are being re-written to accommodate VAR, sin bins have been introduced at the lower levels and officials are packing in left, right and centre because the enjoyment is going out of the game as far as they are concerned.
The wider picture is much more than someone looking at a TV screen but it is not worthworrying about because life will go on with or without football.
