What's the most annoying late goal you've seen us concede?

After Sunday's late sickener and Pawson being the ref it brought to mind this horrific moment from three years ago against Arsenal.

Image

Ref playing on until they scored, handball, offside? Take your pick.

There have been a few of these down the years and I'm sure some of you can recall some infuriating late calamities.

Yesterdays non penalty
We were awesome and deserved the win
To be cheated by inept timekeeping allowing the ridiculous added time really stuck in the throat
We cant learn much from Rugby league but and independent timekeeper with a hooter to signal full time would negate cheating refs .

Burnley against Sunderland when they were managed by Roy Keane....they had a decent side at the time we were leading by 1..0 and they scored in fergie time... For some reason it seemed an important game.felt like a defeat!

Wasn't offside. Ox didn't touch it.

I think that goal was one of the main reasons the rules were changed so that you can't score with your hand even if it was ball-to-hand.

Also, i opened this thread to post about this goal. ******* ridiculous.

Wrong, Oxlaide-Chamberlain clearly shoots with his right foot which deflects off Koscielny making him offside.

Not to mention the shot was missing by a mile until Koscielny patted it in with his hand.

That's the one that sticks in my mind, dragged Mrs NL to the pub when I realised it was on. Sank about 4 pints in the 2nd half and swearing and shouting abuse at the big screen in a pub in Warton near Carnforth. A bit later on my foul mood continued and told her about my displeasure about the late serving of tea. She had a large opened bag of pipers crisps in her hand with a plastic clip on them, the said bag was launched in my direction with great accuracy from point blank range. It hit me on the forehead clip first  . Once I'd praised her on the throw she mildly calmed down

Had this debate before. I'm not wrong.

This is a freeze frame from the goal that proves his was Koscielny and not Ox who played the ball. The reason i'm saying "proves" is because you can see the bleeding of the next frame in the image, which shows the ball going up and Ox's foot isn't responsible for that.

Dunn's was horrendous at the time, but the way they celebrated told us the shift in power had changed and made Ings' winner
all the more enjoyable after coming from behind ...

Substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who also stretched for the ball with Koscielny, said the manner of the goal was irrelevant, and that the three points could be Arsenal's biggest come May.

"I think it has hit both of us at some point, but it doesn't really matter, we've managed to squeeze it in at the end and that's one of the biggest wins we'll have this season.

Fatboys goal for them lot. Was absolutely sickening. We held on gallantly with 10 men. Couldn't believe it when I saw how offside it was. I gave up hope of me seeing us beat them after that. Didn't help with the arfield back pass at home the next season although looking back it's funny to see how pathetic they'd become celebrating equalisers like they'd won the champions league

I suppose that would be the first time a footballer has ever falsely taken credit for something.

I've got video evidence showing Ox is wrong. You've got Ox's word. Maybe Ox is mistaken. Maybe he clipped Koscieny's foot and though he touched the ball. The video shows otherwise.

I don't agree that a still photo proves your point.

If you watch the video, particularly the footage from behind, it appears the ball is played by the red and black boot worn by oxlade -chamberlain.

Just watched them.

The second one from behind shows contact from the green boot which couldn't be seen in the YouTube video.

I concede that it appears you were right and koscielny played the ball.

Good work getting the videos.

I can remember one that went in our favour back in the mid 70's.
Our first season back up under Jimmy Adamson and we were playing Liverpool at home, possibly on Boxing Day.
We scored early on but Liverpool equalised around 79 minutes.
We went straight up from the kick off and knocked in a winner.
Don't ask me to name the scorers though.

Does it matter? If Ox played it, the ball then went on to hit Kosc. who was offside.

In Dyche’s second promotion season, we played Wolves at home and it felt like a big one as we were top of the league but still being hunted down.

They equalised in injury time, header from a corner as I recall.

Doesn’t compare to Dunn’s goal obviously but I always remember that one feeling like a big moment (as it turned out though, it was totally irrelevant!).

jedimaster...good shout. I remember being absolutely GUTTED by that Wolves goal and the anxiety it induced in me about our promotion prospects was huge. David Jones gave the ball away in midfield just ahead of the goal and for days afterwards I kept thinking "Why didn't he just hoof into row Z ?!"

It does matter because if Ox hit it then it would be a goal that, by he laws of the game at the time, should have been ruled out. But as they were, even though common sense says the goal shouldn't have counted, the laws were that because it was ball to hand and accidental them it was a legal goal. Which was ridiculous.

Don’t remind me. I had an accumulator on and that goal cost me £1900. All other results were in and I even tried to cash out in the JH but the 3G was not working well enough.

Dunn’s was the worst feeling though by far.......

The last player to touch the ball was offside, - it matters not whether it came off his arse or his elbow, it was not a legal goal.

You can't possibly get a later goal than this. The ball hits the back of the net and the ref blows for full time.

He wasn't though. He'd have been offside had Oxlade Chamberlain touched it, but he didn't. Koscielny was onside when the ball was flicked on in the six yard box.

All of the above were annoying. But the game that left me scarred for life was a cup tie at Old Trafford in 1965. We went 1 up early on and held out until the last 10 minutes when UTD equalised. I was discussing the replay when George Best beat Les Latcham for the first time in the game, crossed the ball with one boot in his hand and Dennis Law scored with an overhead kick at the Stretford End. I wept that day. Then last season, when we went 2 0 up with 3 minutes left I thought my demons had been finally put to bed. And we all know what happened next!

Spurs goal in the league cup was one of the most important goals in our history.
Without that goal I dont think we would achieved promotion that season.
And that was the catalyst for our current success
