Why green for Arsenal but light blue for Wolves?

Post by Spijed » Tue Aug 27, 2019 9:16 am

The light blue kit wouldn't have clashed with Arsenal's red & white kit yet we played in green.

Claret & Blue wouldn't have clashed with the gold of Wolves yet we played in light blue.

And in previous seasons we've played in Claret & Blue at Molineux as well.

Who decides what colours we wear & when?

I think it’s an opportunity to play in all three kits as soon as possible, stimulating sales.

Posted this when the third kit was released, it’s which kits I thought we should/would be playing in for the away games and his season

1 from 2 so far

Arsenal = Third (but should be away)
Wolves = Home
BHA = Home
Villa = Third
Leicester = Home (but probably away)
Sheffield United = Away
Watford = Home
Spurs = Home
Bournemouth = Away
Everton = Home (but probably away)
Chelsea = Home (but probably away)
Man U = Away
Southampton = Away
Newcastle = Home
Man C = Third
Palace = Away
WHU = Third
Liverpool = Away
Norwich = Home

You think away kits are to do with colour clashes?

It’s all about the £££

The deal with Umbro is to probably have 3 kits a season and we have to have to meet a sales target

At least blue reflects our colours. Teal is a nice colour but nothing to do with us.

Things could be worse. There was that horrendous yellow kit we had in the eighties and the arguments with the club about it. Their defence was on the lines of 'if there's a slightest clash of colours we use the away kit'.

I used to love the claret shorts and white top which used to be our away kit.

Seemed very strange to me playing in the blue at Wolves which I’d expected us to wear at Arsenal.

Why do you think "we would probably" wear all blue at the likes of Chelsea, Everton and Leicester who wear blue/white themselves?

I'd say they'd wear anything but blue if where possible.

Only because we have been known to wear our away kits there before - I’m assuming because both “dark colours”.

The fact it’s both blue is irrelevant as Man City have played them all in their light blue before.

As been said, it’s nothing to do with clashes and all to do with money and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was something in the deal to say for away games it’s home shirt x times, away shirt y times and third shirt z times

It's interesting but the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City don't switch kits when they play each other, both play in their respective blues.

Agree although Chelsea wear blue blue white, where City wear light blue, white, light blue .

I think shorts and socks being totally opposite colours will help I that case. So only shirts are same colour but with big contrast. We would be all light blue unless we mixed in the home kit ( which if that's the case may aswell wear the home or 3rd kit )

I've lost all interest in our kits now. Buying them, wearing them, speculating about them. It means absolutely nothing to me.

I'm the same. It's only 9 months, and then the debates about sponsor size, collars, shades of blue and hooped socks starts all over again.

I’d like to see that rich looking 70s shirt (all claret with blue collar and cuffs) get a run out again. And then the opposite one (all blue with claret collar and cuffs) as third shirt.

Hipper. I agree with you on that away kit, I got that for footy at school in the late 60's.
I bought it from Cocker's when replica strips weren't the easiest thing to buy.
Always my favourite away strip. :D

In the sixties my mum managed to get me a Burnley home kit here in Hertfordshire. The only thing it didn't have was the badge and you couldn't get it unless you ordered a large number, so my mum crocheted one for me!

Aren't mums wonderful!

If we have no colour blind players than can we also play in green v Liverpool and man u?

For that reason, I'm surprised that it was allowed. There is a bit of awareness training going on at the FA at the moment. Matt Holland has been quoted a few times.
