Minutes applause.
Minutes applause.
All, I know there are varying views on this across the message board, but can I request that there is recognition for Paul Simm AKA Zac. He recently lost his battle with Pancreatic cancer aged just 56. Some of you may have seen updates in the local press. His picture, and message, will be on screen for the third minute at the match against Liverpool. Much appreciated.

Re: Minutes applause.
Each season we have a minute's silence to remember those who have passed away in the previous year. On a personal note, I don't particularly think these minute's applause during a game are appropriate.

Can someone upload a picture of him. Most of us know a lot of folk by sight or to talk to without always knowing the name

I agree with you Tony, it seems the club thinks it is appropriate though.ClaretTony wrote:Each season we have a minute's silence to remember those who have passed away in the previous year. On a personal note, I don't particularly think these minute's applause during a game are appropriate.

Not sure they do - they accept the pics for the big screen, which they can't really refuse, but they don't announce it.Aclaret wrote:I agree with you Tony, it seems the club thinks it is appropriate though.
Re: Minutes applause.
There's far too many nowadays, it not a special event and in my opinion there are far better ways to remember loved ones... Most inside the ground haven't a clue why some are clapping.... I prefer the once a year on the screen, apart from the fact I can no longer see the screen, so nobody close to us will be appearing on that either.

Think it was last season, or possibly the one before, that for the first few games we seemed to have 2 or 3 each game.
Sorry if it sounds harsh, but if you have too many it loses it meaning.

Re: Minutes applause.
We could have had two for long standing Clarets I knew personally at the Southampton game but, and this is a personal view, I’d not promote it. I much prefer the annual event. Some weren’t in favour of that when it started but it is once a year and the minute is observed before the game.

They’ve picked the right opposition for it. Those sentimental Scousers love a minute’s applause.

Re: Minutes applause.
I’m not keen on them during matchplay. Many fans and players seem to wonder what is going on.
I’ve no objection if it’s before the match or during the half time interval. Maybe the once a year approach is enough?

Top Bloke Zac....His funeral service was a special Event though with 500? At the sacred heart church in colne...followed by a service at Burnley crem...with people outside. On then to the wake held at the James Hargreaves suite..similar numbers attending.if you knew zac you'd think different.....these ARE Special events for tAll bereaved in attendance at a match. This guy was pretty special.Grumps wrote:There's far too many nowadays, it not a special event and in my opinion there are far better ways to remember loved ones... Re: Minutes applause.
Without wanting to sound heartless that's the point though. His family and friends have already remembered and paid their respects to him. I just don't see the need for a confused minutes applause from a stadium where most of the crowd haven't got a clue what they're actually applauding for.tim_noone wrote:Top Bloke Zac....His funeral service was a special Event though with 500? And before anyone has a go I'd feel exactly the same way if it was one of my loved ones.

Re: Minutes applause.
While everyone has their view on whether they’re right or wrong, this thread shouldn’t be about bickering over the merits of that. It’s simply to raise awareness that it’s happening.
Either observe it and join in or ignore it respectfully.
Was clearly a very popular guy seeing how many were at his wake last week at the turf.

You’ve missed the point. It doesn’t matter who it is, some, like me, are just not in favour of it.tim_noone wrote:if you knew zac you'd think different
I remember the one two or three years ago when we had three in the same game. It was just ridiculous.
Re: Minutes applause.
I mean the applause is not a special event, as its been happening too many timestim_noone wrote:Top Bloke Zac....His funeral service was a special Event though with 500? Another well known claret also left us today
"On Tuesday 27th August at 02:43am, we sadly lost a Burnley legend in Mark ”Billy“ Smith leaving behind a loving family"
If there is an applause, it may well be for both clarets as it seems both were very well known and popular fans.

Re: Minutes applause.
If you want to shout at the referee or a Liverpool player for a bad mistake or foul, would that count as disrespectful? If I really want to ignore a pre-game minute's applause, I can sit down and not interrupt - I wouldn't ever shout or disrupt it. Is it different in-game?cricketfieldclarets wrote:While everyone has their view on whether they’re right or wrong, this thread shouldn’t be about bickering over the merits of that.
