Absolutely dominated until their first goal and then .... no real response after the Hart performance early second half

First 30 minutes we played very well (although a little bit open defensively) and should have been 2 or 3 up. Didn't take our chances then gave away a goal with a silly mistake. Didn't deal with two corners at the start of the second half (second goal was poor keeping from Hart and we left 3 men unmarked on the edge of the box for the 3rd) and that was it. Seemed to panic and revert to hoof ball instead of playing decent football which worked well in the first half. Awful second half display, clueless as to how to break a team down and Sunderland deserved to win.

Bardsley 3 - hoof
Long 6 - never has a bad game

Lennon 7 - Best player tonight by far
Drinkwater 5 - great potential. Not geld yet
Hendrick 3 - gave ball away too much

Hart 3 but want to give 2 really, on a positive note kept his average of 3 goals a games.
Bardsley 5. Thought he was ok
Long 6 didn’t see any mistakes from him.
Gibson 6 one mistake but overall ok
Taylor 5. Didn’t do anything to get himself back in the starting 11.
Lennon 6 ran around a lot
Drinkwater 7 started slow, 40 minutes was really good, great pass to Vyd who set up Jay for the goal, then disappeared.
Hendrick 5 meh
McNeil 4 I said before kick off he was going to rip them a new one, became a damp squib.
Rodriguez 6 great goal, some good control and link up play, faded when we went shite and just hit long balls up top cutting out midfield completely
Vydra 4 yep, that’s why he is not playing, gave us nothing tonight.

Wood 5 came on when we were shite and creating nothing.

Hart 3 - Nothing to do apart from pick it out of the net. -2 marks for the second goal.
Bardsley 3 - Too many wasted balls to either no one or straight out of play.
Long 5 - Average.
Gibson 4 - Not particularly assured in what he was doing.
Taylor 6 - Reasonable effort and a couple of decent runs in the second half.
Lennon 6 - Some good running, tracking back and looked the most interested out there.
Drinkwater 4 - Unlucky or an unnecessary deflection for the first goal. A few decent moments though.
Hendrick 3 - Second half disaster. Like the team up until 30 minutes was playing well.
McNeil 5 - A few glimpses of what he can do especially first half an hour.
Rodriguez 5 - Good finish helped by the goalies bad positioning, not much else to report.
Vydra 5 - Good work for the goal and a couple of good moment but like the rest nothing to show in the second half.

Wood 6 - Made a difference when he came on winning balls etc. but a little too late.

Disappointing but not unexpected as there appears to be no real motivation in these types of games. Thought a few would be out to impress when given the chance but none really did.

I’ve probably over marked because for 34 minutes we were dominant and playing nice football then.... Drinkwater unwittingly contributes to their equaliser and boom..... 11 men disappear

Hart 4 should have pushed the second away if he couldn't hold it, no chance with the first or the deflected third (unless I saw that differently to everyone else).
Bardsley 4 as bad as i have seen him play for us
Taylor 5 fairly untroubled defensively but offered zilch going forward,
Long 4 bullied, awful in possession,
Gibson 4 see long
McNeil 5 non existent after thirty minutes
Drinkwater 5 I’ve added a mark for his first thirty minutes when his passing was a cut above, however he didn’t look interested in working hard and second half he may as well have sat in the stand
Hendrick 5 comfortable, composed and positive first 35 minutes then like the rest disappeared second half and lacked any quality as Sunderland swarmed over the midfield
Lennon 5 worked hard, busy, unlucky not to score first half, but we need more quality from him, be it beating a man, a pass, a cross or a goal
Vydra 5 if he scores we win comfortably. He tried to be busy and he did play jay rod in for the goal but his miss was worse and more costly than anything else I saw tonight
Rodriguez 5 scored but his general link up play was awful after the first 35 minutes

Wood 6 a threat unlucky not to score 1 should have scored another

Great marks there IanMcL - thought of you immediately Hart did a Grant parry for their second goal

I wasn't there, so cannot mark. I saw the goals on sky and Hart was not the sole culprit. However, he is the one singled out for a 3 by everyone.

Hence, the name, 'Scapegoat'. 11 players were on the pitch. I am not defending Joe Hart, just highlighting that he was not alone in culpability.

Glad you think of me, whilst watching the Claret goalkeepers CT!

Hart 4-
Bardsley 5-Surprised when he was pulled. Could have been 6 or 7 others.
Long 4-Part of the problem in the centre of our defence.
Gibson 4- Always rated this guy. He normally has a presence but not in evidence last night and he definitely looked ring rusty.
Taylor 4-Difficult to mark and looked short of match fitness.
Lennon 5-Huffed and puffed but didn't affect the game enough in the final third bar the shot that hit post.
Drinkwater 6-For 30 mins he looked good.
Hendrick 4-Dont think Corky or Westwood would have lost much sleep.
McNeil 4-He's had a very indifferent start to the season. Needs to get involved a lot more
Rodriguez 7-Thought he worked his socks off and scored a good goal.
Vydra 5-Again showed plenty of energy but didn't take up the best positions. Good pass to JR for our goal.

Wood 7-For me he did try and resurrect something from the game but he should have come on earlier.
Lowton 5-I can understand why he was brought on but he had little influence on the game.

Difficult to rate because we had a spell between our goal (which was well worked) and their equaliser where we played some nice stuff. In the second half it was as though the entire team had become victims of parasitic alien body snatchers: unable to play with any intent, losing battles all over the pitch, getting caught in possession and, uncharacteristically for a Dyche team, completely lacking in fighting spirit. With respect to Sunderland, who took their chances well, this was an embarrassing performance. I don't know exactly what went wrong but what I will say is that I didn't see any leaders in claret and blue on the pitch last night. Although they put the effort in, there never seemed to be any conviction we could turn the game around.

Are you not aware that Dyche has all contracted players gelded within 6 weeks of signing ? Alas this doesn’t apply to loan players ,which may explain their general failure on the field

Nowt wrong with first 35 minutes against a spirited side. If Vydra had scored rather than aiming at the post, it would have been a different story. a lucky equaliser, then what a shambles

McNeil was singled out for praise by McNally on Sky in the first half. Surprised to see Clarets give him 4s after this.

Played really well for the first half - particularly the first 30 mins. Some really nice stuff to watch....absolutely dumbfounded as to how the second half was so bad! Sunderland didn't do much apart from being busy and Hart didn't have very much to do at all. Strange second half.
