A head scratcher - Dyche
"A head-scratcher,’ Dyche rued. ‘We’ve had too many of those and that is probably the biggest one. The first five minutes of the second half were unacceptable.
‘A few worked hard but we didn’t work smart enough. That was a really experienced team we put out there. We should take care of ourselves better.’"
that's all I can find so far

When Dyche uses words like "unacceptable" you know he is not a happy bunny. It's about time he decided to be more critical if it is needed.

You have to wonder how many would have had their P45 handed to them had Stan been in charge

A lot of those players needed game time and a number of them needed to prove why they should be considered for selection in league games. Doesn’t seem like they’ve done much to help their cause.

Those are the words he used in public,I wouldn’t think for 1 second that he used those words to the players in the dressing room and at the debrief today.Vino blanco wrote:When Dyche uses words like "unacceptable" you know he is not a happy bunny. He’s not going to hang players out to dry individually in public and rightly so.
Keep supporting and let him keep managing ,you learn more in defeat than in winning, and if the defeat comes in the Carabao cup then it’s a bonus it’s not a league game

Not having seen the match last night, were there any players who did themselves justice or was it a general failing in the whole team?

Was across the board really, first half showed some promise but second half none of them.Firthy wrote:Not having seen the match last night, were there any players who did themselves justice or was it a general failing in the whole team?

These early exit cup games are a useful exercise in quelling a whole season of 'why doesn't X get a chance?' posts.
It's probably because they're a bit **** compared to the lads in the first team.

The team that SD put out last night had 199 International caps between them. SAFC made wholesale changes to their team from the weekend,on paper we should have beaten them,no wonder he's cheesed off. In a way,i felt sorry for SD last night and from his unusual comments,he felt let down last night too

Re: A head scratcher - Dyche
Another strong team last night that should be breezing past Sunderland but has come up short. I think there's a few reasons for this keep happening.
One is that these lads aren't playing competitive games together regularly so it's no wonder we always look a bit disjointed.
Another is to do with motivation. Whilst Dyche is right to say they aren't in the first team because they don't perform in games like this, we and they all know that playing well against Sunderland in the cup isn't going to get you in the team against Liverpool in the PL. They also know that the most they'll get is the odd 20 mins here and there bar injury/serious loss of form.
It's a difficult situation because we need our squad players to be sharp as possible if called on for the first team so a few cup games would have done them good. Having a settled side is a huge strength, especially in defence but I think it's fair to wonder if we could make better use of the squad and involve players more than just chucking them all in for a cup game then wondering why we don't fare very well.

Don’t forget these players will come into the first team with 10 regulars, probably from the bench, so it will be easier to integrate.

Depends really, Charlie Taylor is a good example. Took a while to settle completely but when he did he was flying.

I wonder if the lack of motivation from the management team is also a factor here. Dyche has never seemed particularly bothered about cup competitions in general, so does that mindset then feed down to the players he picks?quoonbeatz wrote:Another is to do with motivation. The players should still be professional enough to put a shift in regardless, but I doubt it helps to motivate them knowing that the manager isn't really taking the game seriously himself.

This team will be playing their next game in early January in the FA Cup. They need to knuckle down to serious training

If a player doesn’t think, regardless of how well he does when given a chance, that they aren’t going to get in the first team, then it’s tough. (Not tough luck but difficult)
If JR had scored a hat trick should he replace Wood? Or Gibson played well automatically replace Mee?
