BRING A TIN FOR THE BIN

Post by ClaretTony » Thu Aug 29, 2019 10:47 am

I've got my tin ready for Saturday - can you please consider bringing a donation as Clarets for Foodbanks gets underway this Saturday from 4 p.m. I'll have full details of the locations later today.

Fans are asked to bring non-perishable donations of the following items:

Tinned meat and fish
Tinned fruit and vegetables
Tinned beans and spaghetti
Tinned or packet soup
Tea and coffee
Long life UHT milk and juice
Dried or tinned pet food
Toiletries / household items

Do you also accept well behaved children at the end of a bloody long six week holiday?

And you got the tin at a wrong angle, so we can't see the weight-display panel. 8-)

It is admittedly a very nice pic, Tony - but would look even better with the requisite information fully visible.

We are likely to have two bins at four locations.

1. Close to the away fans entrance
2. Club shop corner
3. Behind Jimmy Mac Stand
4. Approach from Belvedere Road

As some may know, Mrs Clarets4me and I care for two Adults who live with " learning disabilities " who share our home. One of them works as a volunteer at the BFC Community Kitchen, where the Foodbank is based. He tells me they are in great need of tinned soups, meats, corned beef, spam etc, tuna, tinned vegetables and tinned fruit. They are well stocked for cereals at present ...

Hope everyone can do their bit, it's a great cause .....

I suppose it doesn’t matter what it looks like as long as it provides some help at the foodbank.

I'm really looking forward to doing this tomorrow and hope we get some generous Burnley supporters.

We've already had the pledge of a donation from the Spirit of Shankly group at Liverpool and The Blue Union (Everton) are making a special visit to make a donation themselves with it being the first time we've done it. They've both encouraged their fans to bring donations with them too.

A few years ago, collecting for foodbanks would have been unimaginable but it's good to see it taking off around the country now, all inspired by these two wonderful groups from Merseyside.

Don't forget you tin. My carrots are already in my bag and ready to go.

For anyone else interested (look away now, Lenny ;) ), I happen to have procured an identical tin, and can confirm that the relevant net weight is 300g, with a drained weight of 195.

Shocking that people in this country in this century are reliant on this. But a great cause and good effort from all.

Dropped some beans, peas, fish and soup off at the Belvedere Rd one and looked like there was plenty of donations. It literally cost a couple of quid max. But hopefully goes a long way.

Sat here grumbling about what takeaway to have and then remembered this from earlier. And people are struggling day to day to get a meal.

Great cause and hoping it’s repeated later in the season.

I manned one of the Belvedere road bins.
Lots of very generous donations including your own Cricketfieldclarets.
And we’ll done to the scousers who donated £120+ from the collection they’d had on the coaches.
Having seen their own collections go from strength to strength (now a transit vans worth at every game) it’s clear that they are hoping that our own collections will have the same impact in our community.

To those from West Yorkshire Clarets who volunteered today, a big thanks, and of course to all those generous people who made donations. Blown away with the generosity from both Everton (yes, Everton) and Liverpool plus the fantastic cash donation from Spirit of Shankly.

I thought it might be quiet with us doing it for the first time, but what a wonderful response.

London Clarets will be on duty at the Norwich game.
