I really dont understand why anyone would spend hard earned money to watch us in a cup game mate,it must be a form of torture they enjoy,if we get drawn at home in the FA cup our support should boycott it,we are being taken for idiots having to watch that dross.Bosscat wrote:If you had been watching last nights debacle your 120 sov's would have been chucked through the window m8

should be cheap enough to buy a new one, way cheaper than a laptop - you need to research them though, very different to a laptop.Steve1956 wrote:A reconditioned one Vegas? Have you had one?

Chromebooks are great for basic computing. But you have to understand what it is you're giving up.

Re: Amazon reconditioned PC's
yeah that's why I told the OP to do some research on them. If it's just basic internet browsing and streaming as he indicated then they are perfect for the task, miles better than a windows systemclaret_in_exile wrote:Chromebooks are great for basic computing. Used to work in this department. They're not 'reconditioned' if they are bought from Amazon. They are just returns reset to factory. No real testing done. But I've had a couple of bargains that way.
If bought from a 3rd party seller, who the f knows.

Don’t buy cheap laptops. I can’t do with people telling me they saved hundreds of pounds while they are waiting 5 minute for it to boot up.

Re: Amazon reconditioned PC's
I recommend just building yourself a new one. This way you learn how to build one, everything's under warranty, and you don't run the higher risk of buying a factory returned PC, which was returned for a reason, being faulty out of the box. £150 builds you a perfectly adequate system for browsing for and watching porn.

I bought one for £30 from an Ebay shop, works a treat!
Re: Amazon reconditioned PC's
An article on Macs doesn't seem very relevant to Chromebooks though. They are pretty virus proof as you're effectively running linux without superuser rights so the amount of stuff that can be installed is minimal. The biggest risk is installing a malicious chrome extension or android app which shouldn't happen if you're careful. If it does somehow get infected then resetting is a matter of 5 minutes or so.Sproggy wrote:https://www.itspmagazine.com/from-the-n ... e-than-pcs

Has anyone on here streamed a 3 o'clock Premier league game on a chromebook and had no problem?

Re: Amazon reconditioned PC's
You can. If you're technically minded you can set up a VPN on there (this may be easier to do now that you can install android apps). You can also install Kodi/Plex and whatever add-ons you want or just stream from websites.Steve1956 wrote:Has anyone on here streamed a 3 o'clock Premier league game on a chromebook and had no problem?
I haven't tried it with AceStreams (which in my experience gives the best streams outside of a subscription service) but there is an android app so it may well work.

Re: Amazon reconditioned PC's
Im sure you do, I apologise for inferring you didn’t. I am annoyed at the Chromebook ads though as they make out that the Chromebook OS is immune to viruses, it’s not - no OS is especially when you include people in the equation.Vegas Claret wrote:really ? Although you’re OK to mock because the poster referred to Mac OS in the link, you must understand that the Mac community had that same smugness regarding viruses and malware as google does now with Chromebook - and now they’re are “secure” as Windows desktops. If/when google with the Chromebook increases their market share is when they’ll need to worry about viruses. In essence that’s what my original post about your comment was referencing tbh.Vegas Claret wrote:well done - that's a ******* Mac not a Chromebook, and people reckon I don't know what I'm talking about.

Re: Amazon reconditioned PC's
The mac reference was completely irrelevant especially as he quoted me talking about Chromebooks. Time will tell regarding future viruses, but like someone mentioned, I can factory reset my Chromebook in less than 5 mins. A pc takes me a day to clean up if I get a virus (which I no longer do).Rick_Muller wrote:Im sure you do, I apologise for inferring you didn’t. Either way, for what the op is trying to do a chromebook is his best option by a distance imho

Re: Amazon reconditioned PC's
You can factory reset a chromebook in 5 minutes because it's not useful for much. You could factory reset a PC in 5 minutes too if all that was installed was a browser.

not useful for much ? it does exactly what you want it to do if you want to browse the internet, send emails, install apk's - you know, exactly what the OP asked forImploding Turtle wrote:You can factory reset a chromebook in 5 minutes because it's not useful for much. If you want to run photoshop, Ableton etc etc then you need a PC or a Mac..........but that's not what he asked for

Re: Amazon reconditioned PC's
I didn't say it doesn't do what you want it to do, as long as what you want it to do isn't a whole lot. I was pointing out that the reason you can reset it in 5 minutes is because it doesn't do much. It wasn't a criticism of the product, it was a criticism of your argument.Vegas Claret wrote:not useful for much ? it does exactly what you want it to do if you want to browse the internet, send emails, install apk's - you know, exactly what the OP asked for

Re: Amazon reconditioned PC's
It was perfectly valid. Being able to factory reset something in 5 minutes because it has extremely limited use isn't a pro. And having to take hours to reset a PC which has a huge number of use cases isn't a con. They are both a normal consequence of the complexity of use cases.Vegas Claret wrote:yeah, and it was invalid as usual
I can factory reset my TV in about 15 seconds. Does that make it better than a chromebook? No.

I might transition our house over to Chrome next year when the Office subscription runs out. I think another advantage is they auto backup to cloud.
The laptop I currently use was a refurb when I bought it twelve years ago. Too slow for streaming anything (or even browsing) I just use it for writing because I love the keyboard. When Office started playing up on it and I spoke with Microsoft’s tech support and they took control remotely, the quickly muted their sound, and I saw him open the systems info page and move the curser over the paltry processor speed.
