Nigel Farage’s Ego

Post by AlargeClaret » Fri Aug 30, 2019 9:15 am

Back in the day always thought Farage was fairly decent value for money on Question time /interviews etc usually seemed well Informed and spoke ( mainly ) common sense

However since he met Trump his ego seems to have taken a whole new life and only this week he’s very publicly swinging his d1ck ,threatening to “ bring down the Tories/Corbyn “ etc . Has he become a real political threat or just a jumped up egomaniac ?

He's an entertaining and highly skilled public speaker and debater.

I always get the impression that he could argue just as well for the opposite point if he wanted to.

I've often thought Brexit is merely a vehicle through which Farage can self promote and boost his public profile. Even if we did the Brexit of his dreams I reckon it wouldn't be long before he was grinding an axe about something else.

If we finally get a more balanced electoral system than FPTP than I will consider his loathsome existence to have been worth it, harmful no-deal Brexit and all.

We'll see how he fares at the next election (well, probably) but in driving Brexit and putting it on the top of the agenda he's helped create a situation where the vote share in the sitting parliament between the two main parties is the highest (82.4%) it's been since the 1970 general election (89.5%). The two-party system is as entrenched (based on this parliament) as it's been in the voting-life of most of the people who are posting on this forum.

Maybe, maybe not, but like you say, time will tell; but if the argument is to be made that Corbyn is Labour's electability problem then it stands to reason that Labour's problems are self inflicted.

When it was assumed that Farage had no chance of power he was cast as an highly entertaining side show. Now he has many more have realised how dangerous he actually is.

Seen as a bounder by the Tory establishment although he's cut from very much the same cloth as Cameron , Johnson and the rest of the Bullingdon pig nobbing bunch.

Whilst he's detached from the Tory mainstream he'll never be dangerous insofar as Coonsbreath and the rest of the hacks will portray him in a manner decided by the real power brokers.

I think the some anti-Faragers see posting disfaraging posts as a way of signalling a bit of virtue...I'm not too keen but at the same time my mind feels quite warm to some of the stuff he comes out with, especially the tasty bits like the anti-Islam and immigration stuff.

I am therefore probably stuck in the middle of pro/anti-Farage....sort of pranti-Farage.

Except that one time a slight majority agreed with him, and when that happened what did he do?

That's not necessarily an incompatible comparison. These are two very different basis of discussion.

One translated to 'which bunch of nobs do you wish to be ruled by? A bunch of English knobs, or a bunch of knobs from 28 different countries?'

The second one translates to' is Farage a knob? '

To be honest I reckon a similar 'District of UTC vote' on a thread about Boris, or Corbyn, or any politician would have more people posting anti- that person posts. That's just how political posts work on here.
