They believe it helps them quit and will be less harmful, but there's very little knowledge about long-term effects etc.
If someone really wanted to quit smoking then they wouldn't vape.
Kids also use them because they seem to think it's cool

Story on fb today about a Texan lad whos’ lungs stopped functioning because of the chemical mixture he was inhaling. Could be total ******** but I wouldn’t write it off. Far too soon for saying these things are safe.

The NHS shouldn't be advocating e-cigs because they haven't got a clue about long term effects.

Simply because they haven't been that popular for long enough, so unless you're considering approx 10 years or so long term, then no one really knows.Rileybobs wrote:How do you know the NHS don’t have a clue about the long term effects?

As this is a relatively new industry it is a bit disappointing that the companies concerned haven't looked into the recycling aspect.

Makes me laugh when people say they have given up smoking, when all they have done is swapped fags for vaping.
Another thing with people who use these, is that they never seem to have them out of their mouths. It cant be any better for you when they cant string a sentence together without having a mid sentence blast

People, quite rightly become aware of the risks from smoking related to cancer and heart disease but COPD is also a killer. Breathing anything in other than fresh air into your lungs can result in some form of COPD, I can't believe vaping would be any different.

I chair a county tobacco control alliance. The advice of our consultant lung specialist is that is far too early to say that e cigarettes are significantly safer than tobacco. His view is that they are likely to be safer than smoking tobacco but not that much. As others have suggested, taking hot chemicals into your lungs is unlikely to be beneficial

Re: E Cigs
I smoke cigarettes yet refuse to puff away at an ecig.
Since the first ones I saw years ago had the little “poison” signs on the bottle which said “if ingested then seek medical help immediately” - So if you can’t drink this stuff and it’s that bad for your body then breathing it in can’t be all too good.
For me it’s a “better the devil you know” kind of attitude to smoking a cigarette. I know the risks and choose to do it anyway which I guess is more fool me.

Re: E Cigs
forget the clowns who are on their high horses because they have never been addicted , its been proven that around 3 million have quit ciggys using e-cigs.
Granted, they may not be safe, and time will tell, but the NHS advocate them as a viable alternative. They back up their decision to do so by stating tests have been carried out , and the risks are way lower than tobacco. I can see its best not to do either, but it does seem a better option to vape if it gets someone of the fags.

E-cigs helped me quit proper cigarettes. Then weaned down to being totally nicotine free. When used properly, they can be a very effective stop smoking aid.

For a lot of people they do work like that, the nicotine itself is addictive, therefore the available liquids come in different strengths.
It is supposedly preferable to gradually reduce the nicotine level until it stops any cravings. clearly many continue on the higher strength stuff because its a hard habit to break.
