Why are we booting it on to the head of giant central defenders over and over when it’s never looked like working? Garbage football, never seen a side so hopeless at pass and move, basics. Wide players stuck at fullback, is Lennon told to not run with the ball? Zero pressure from the front, nothing but park the bus and hoof anywhere forward.

Re: This football
We were actually good until they scored but was a pretty horrible watch after that.

Why have we not got an "unlike" button yet or even "this guy talks bllx" button?
Re: This football
Let's not forget Liverpool were happy to play hoofball for a lot of the game. Most teams in the prem play plenty of long ball stuff yet we get criticised for it.

Beyond frustrating. We should have stuck wood and Barnes on their full backs if we were going to hit long balls.KRBFC wrote:Why are we booting it on to the head of giant central defenders over and over when it’s never looked like working? To be fair we aren’t going to play football against them. But every ball was aimed at van dijks area.

We were playing the winners of the Champions League mate. A team who have won 13 on the bounce. Not sure trying to pass them to death would work for us.KRBFC wrote:Why are we booting it on to the head of giant central defenders over and over when it’s never looked like working? Re: This football
Wood was like a schoolboy against Van Dijk.
OK he’s the best centre half in the world, but that begs the question, why was it apparently a tactic to hoof it to Wood, who is generally pretty poor at winning balls in the air, or making use of his size, to at least make it awkward for the opposition.

Re: This football
Until they scored that fluke of a goal, I think 0-0 was about right. Then the Mee mistake for the second goal and it was pretty much game over.
But not sure there was a right way to play against these. It just wasn't possible.

Would have liked to have seen Drinkwater brought on.
Woods not good enough BUT we've no replacement after watching Jayrod.
Pieters I'm hoping it will click into place but I'm not sure

Re: This football
Football was awful to watch today. Gave the ball away so many times. Basic silly errors and just could not keep the ball. It's alright being organised and working hard but a Premier League team should be able to string a few passes together. Don't mind losing to the big teams and they are an exceptional side but we caused then hardly any problems and they didn't have to get out of second gear. No ideas to change anything and very one dimensional. Disappointing performance.

Re: This football
That is the one criticism I would have of the decision making process at the moment is that we take Barnes off and our system goes to shoite.
Barnes /Wood or Barnes/JRod
Maybe Vydra /Wood but dont know enough about that combo. Taking Barnes off just weakens us at the moment.

The 3-0 loss was predictable, no shame in that. And I do think until 1-0 we deserved to be level, but we gave the ball away a few too many times and sorry to say, we did look like a Championship side at times, with some players almost looking scared of holding onto the ball for more than 2-3 seconds. We did seem to keep the ball a bit better at times in the second half, once Liverpool had taken their foot off the pedal.

Re: This football
A top side, no problem with losing a game we all expect to lose but the manner of defeat is so disappointing, no plan B and a plan A that was never going to work, am I asking to much for us to string 3 passes together, push up the pitch and cross the ball?Indecisive wrote:We were playing the winners of the Champions League mate. Re: This football
Think the problem we had is that they pressed us at pace which forced us into rushed passes and losing possession.

Re: This football
I couldn’t go today as at an event but managed to watch first half. We were good until they scored a freak goal. I didn’t bother with the second half as I knew it was game over. Some Liverpoool fans at the event I was at couldn’t believe I was so confident it was game over but I explained have we don’t have enough in the tank or other options to affect the game once we are 2 goals down against top teams. The long hopeful balls up front were bread and butter for Liverpool to mop up. I predicted a 4-0 defeat and felt we would struggle to score against Liverpool despite others thinking we were likely to score.
Re: This football
I dont mind it if it's getting results like free kicks or causing issues, the fact we persisted with it for 93 minutes even though we won zero headers in the last 3rd was extremely frustrating.
Our set plays were terrible too.

Re: This football
The result I can more than accept, they have class all over the park, the manner of the defeat was simply shocking.
The basics are missing, ability to string a pass or two together, find a team mate, move. It’s just long hoofball against two central defenders that lap it up time and time again. After 60 min of Long ball time and time again you’d think they’d try something different but no just continued to lump it.

They do that to better teams then us,which is why they're so hard to beat, they're also lightning on the break.HB Claret wrote:Think the problem we had is that they pressed us at pace which forced us into rushed passes and losing possession.
Individual errors didn't help it has to be said.

Re: This football
Forget it and move on ... enough said ... anything against sides like Liverpool and City is a big bonus ... it won't be results against these two that define our season !

We lack pace in that team, only Dwight looks quick.
Even Lennon is not that fast these days, and especially across our middle.. there is no pace.

Re: This football
We seem to panic more when playing the bigger teams and never mind hoofball we just kick it anywhere to anyone to get rid but it comes straight back as it will always do
Re: This football
Good job everyone was well rested from midweek though eh? Sacrificed our place in the cup for a game we were always likely to lose anyway.

No shame in the score-line, but I can't get over that Ben Mee 'pass.' Some things just should not happen.

Re: This football
No real gripes about the style today but it is a common frustrating theme that when we are behind, especially against a good side, we still sit our fullbacks and centre midfield in their positions rather than having them run past their winger or striker colleague respectively.
It feels a bit negative when the game cries out for a risk and is probably why Dyche’s record is terrible when we go behind - luckily it is tremendous when we go ahead, which is often enough.

It's a two horse race again and one of those horses struggled until a lucky goal which settled them down and allowed them to overwhelm us. WTF do you want? We are competing in a league of 14 and today was a free hit. My advice; have a beer or 6 and stop being such a drama queen. Failing that, give yourself a punt in the spuds.KRBFC wrote:Why are we booting it on to the head of giant central defenders over and over when it’s never looked like working? Re: This football
I know Liverpool are a top side, but they were a good team last year at Burnley which I went to. We gave them a good game that night, gave the ball away less and tested their keeper
WE were poor today-no ifs and buts.As I said in an earlier post they never had to change up the gears

Use a hammer next time and maybe do it just before a game so you don’t have to go onKRBFC wrote:I hit myself in the nuts and still think the football we play is atrocious.
Why are you doing something you clearly do not enjoy ? Nobody is making you go on - if indeed you ever do.
