Re: Two big lumps up front!!
Hes absolutely spot on, but our tactics showed them as that.
We didnt win a single header, the persisted to do it for the entire 93 minutes.

My thinking was that Dyche knew the game was lost and was A) saving Barnes and B) giving Wood a confidence boost by keeping him on.fanzone wrote:Chris Wood were absolutely appalling tonight, the decision to bring Barnes off was baffling

Re: Two big lumps up front!!
The most baffling decision was not to change it much earlier. We were pretty poor second half - Jayrod should’ve been on before the hour.
Re: Two big lumps up front!!
I think you could have brought Jayrod on as a 12th player and we still wouldn't have got past Virgil and his defence.scouseclaret wrote:The most baffling decision was not to change it much earlier. We were pretty poor second half - Jayrod should’ve been on before the hour.
Re: Two big lumps up front!!
I would not have minded if he said that today Barnes and Wood were ineffective
But to call them two big lumps up front showed a total lack of respect by a football pundit

For those who didn't hear the Carragher interview - (I can't stand him by the way) - maybe his choice of words was perhaps a little unfortunate, but he was essentially correct, and he described us on two occasions as outstanding, so let's not show ourselves to be "classless" losers.
He was very complimentary about us.

I’m spitting feathers at his remarks what is he spitting and at who tonight?
Re: Two big lumps up front!!
Yes afterwards he was very complimentary of Burnley and Sean Dyche
But those are the exact words that he used to describe Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood which any way you look at it is disrespectful to our two strikers

They should both have been subbed in my opinion, we had nothing to lose by throwing on both JayRod and Vydra with 30 minutes left

Love Barnes as much as everyone does but be interesting to know how many he's scored against van diyk, fellani and more recently the frizzy haired freak from arsenal(guendiza?)
1 last week I know at least

What with not being able to understand most of what he says, I'm not sure Carragher wasn't talking about that Penelope Cruz film on the telly last night.

Can we just appreciate that Chris Wood successfully dribbled past Van Dijk, which didn’t happen in the whole of last season. He actually had a few good touches and just couldn’t find the finishes on his left foot.

Re: Two big lumps up front!!
They weren't two big lumps a few weeks ago when we beat Saints, gave it a good go at Arsenal and should have won last week at Wolves.
They've been shown up against arguably the best defence in the world and an individual mountain just awarded the best player in the world.
Stop being so fickle people!!

Agreed.
Barnes spent the game throwing himself about by bouncing off their big lads and whining to the referee. I normally rate Barnes but he was out of his depth, unusually for him, today.
Re: Two big lumps up front!!
If Barnes is up against a top class centre half who won't be bullied then he doesn't really offer much.

The truth of it is that on a number of occasions defenders who cost 100 times plus more than Barnes do often get the better of Barnes and many other centre forwards they play against. And the other truth is that sometimes against all the odds Barnes gets the better of them.
There will be fans of every team outside the top 6 or 7 saying the same thing every week.
Did you see £20m Danny Ings yesterday ? He was embarrassingly poor - there was one point that he tried to push the ball past Lindelof and beat him for pace that if you didn’t know who he was you’d think he was a Sunday league player !
Re: Two big lumps up front!!
What does that even mean ?jrgbfc wrote:If Barnes is up against a top class centre half who won't be bullied then he doesn't really offer much.
Barnes has been brilliant all season and had lots of players and pundits saying he should have been in the England squad.
He has one poor game against the best defender in the world and a player favourite to be picked as the best player in the world and you get sh-ite like this posted.
Exactly which centre halfs “won’t be bullied” ?
Re: Two big lumps up front!!
It means what it says. A massive part of Barnes game is being physical, trying to bully defenders. If he can't do it he's far less effective. It's not difficult to understand. And outside of Burnley I don't think there's too many people pushing for him to be in the England squad.TVC15 wrote:What does that even mean ?

Re: Two big lumps up front!!
It’s meaningless because all defenders are bullied at some point - it’s just some more than others. Few teams do not have a big strapping centre back who on the face of it looks like he “won’t be bullied”....look at the freak who plays for Southampton - he didn’t get bullied by Rashford yesterday and had a great game yet he was awful against Barnes.jrgbfc wrote:It means what it says. Wolves have got Boly - he’s a beast of a centre back who very rarely gets bullied by centre forwards - how did Barnes do against him last week ?
It’s nothing to do with what you are saying. It’s simply that players like Van Dyke will for the vast majority of games dominate all forwards they play against because they are so good. Lesser players like Luiz will sometimes look world beaters but often won’t - including a few times against Barnes.

Edited my post before anyone else commented when I remembered his goal from last week(wasn't aware of his record against top six which I think I stated)
Was answering a post as to way he was subbed instead of wood and I think it was because of my point of him being neutralised by van dijk
But accept I worded my post a little wrong
Think jrbfc sums it up better than I did
