Lack of pace
Jon Walters said after the game that the Burnley team have an awful lot more skill then they are credited for, he then went on to say the one area that lets us down is having no pace up front.
He's not wrong !

Re: Lack of pace
Didn't stop us scoring three against Southampton or carving open Wolves on numerous occasions though!

Re: Lack of pace
You are ight Vegas. It got us promoted with Gray in the team. He wasn't quite the real deal but playing off the shoulder of defenders with his pace got us numerous goals. We could be outplayed but his goals won us numerous games
Re: Lack of pace
I doubt it'll stop us creating chances and scoring goals against the rest of the PL.
Re: Lack of pace
Not sure pace would have made much difference with Van Dyke is playing in defence
Re: Lack of pace
I cannot get my head round Vydra not coming on as after 55 mins we looked one pace and as per usual Wood and Barnes struggle against the top teams as most strikers do but we mad it easy for them in the second half and it was to predictable, When Barnes went off Liverpool defenders relaxed and started passing it about as Rodriguez wasn't up to the pace of the game. Woods was very poor as per previous games but at least he is off the score sheet now -1

Re: Lack of pace
Also with Jack Cork shirking tackles and Ben Mee having a mare.
However, many fans pointed out the need for a decent cm who could pass and tackle and a pacey winger
Not signing either in Summer will give us problems

The guy who trained with us see's a massive issue that most of the rest of us see, I don't doubt we will create and score but I agree with Walters 100%Spijed wrote:I doubt it'll stop us creating chances and scoring goals against the rest of the PL.

Re: Lack of pace
We certainly lack an Andre Gray type, as the opposition can push forward knocking we won't hurt them on the counter.

Re: Lack of pace
You are entitlted to your view but I commented on the match thread he was back to his very best. He covered miles, looked pacier than he has for some time and his passing was better than most. He was up against three top midfielders remember.Stayingup wrote:Far too easily brushed aside and some poor passing also today

I just don't think Vydra is very good unfortunately. Plus he doesn't have the raw pace that Gray hadLew200100 wrote:I cannot get my head round Vydra not coming on as after 55 mins we looked one pace and as per usual Wood and Barnes struggle against the top teams as most strikers do but we mad it easy for them in the second half and it was to predictable, -1
Re: Lack of pace
Do the teams we are competing with push forward that much anyway?FactualFrank wrote:We certainly lack an Andre Gray type, as the opposition can push forward knocking we won't hurt them on the counter.
Wolves or Southampton?
Re: Lack of pace
Agree we've suffered in that department fir some time. A strong centre forward with pace would be a great addition, the cost of which is probably way beyond our budget.

Re: Lack of pace
What we really need is a strong, pacy striker capable of 25 goals. Aguero would be ideal.

Re: Lack of pace
In our game they were obviously trying to, but we completely negated their attacks until the last 15 mins or so!FactualFrank wrote:You aren't sure whether Wolves push forward?

Re: Lack of pace
I think McNeil is fairly quick as is Lennon.
Re: Lack of pace
**** sake spijed, it’s an area that everyone knows we are lacking in and has been highlighted by someone who was in our dressing room last season that’s all. You’d give an aspirin a headache.Spijed wrote:Do the teams we are competing with push forward that much anyway?

Re: Lack of pace
We know he's been the best striker in the Championship, but I don't think we play to his strengths. Put it one way - when Leeds go up (they ARE going up this season) and buy him (they WILL buy him), he'll do very well for them in the Premier League. He's good enough, that I'm sure, but he needs to play for a team who play the ball on the ground.JohnDearyMe wrote:I just don't think Vydra is very good unfortunately. We just don't do that as we don't have the midfield.
Re: Lack of pace
I agree. Yesterday McNeil gained a yard over Alexander Arnold on about the half way line and was still a yard clear as they neared the goal line (first half). He may not be blindingly fast, but he's fast.Cirrus_Minor wrote:I think McNeil is fairly quick as is Lennon.
As for what Walters said, it's a bit stating the bleeding obvious that Barnes would be a better player if he was faster. How do we go about signing someone who is a deadly finisher and lightning fast? Other than waiting for Liverpool to sack Salah or for Salah to decide he doesn't like playing for Liverpool and wants to make a bit less money?

McNeil was never as quick as Arnold. They were equal, at best.dsr wrote:I agree. Yesterday McNeil gained a yard over Alexander Arnold on about the half way line and was still a yard clear as they neared the goal line (first half). He may not be blindingly fast, but he's fast.

Oh to be so slow as to only be equal to Trent Alexander-Arnold in pace !

Re: Lack of pace
I think that the lack of creativity and pace in the side has been highlighted by numerous posts over the past 6 or 7 transfer window threads to be honest.

Re: Lack of pace
He’s getting a bit too old tbh. Don’t want to be pushing that average age of the squad up. I’ve heard also that he doesn’t like the big Tesco and prefers Booths...not sure we could persuade him tbhRileybobs wrote:What we really need is a strong, pacy striker capable of 25 goals. Re: Lack of pace
McNeil definitely doesn't look quick but he just seems to have the ability to glide past players, makes it look so effortless.

Re: Lack of pace
Funnily enough Pope beat the whole team ( Lennon included) over a (part mucking about) full pitch length sprint last week though I don’t fancy him on the wing
Re: Lack of pace
That's probably one of the reasons he's regarded as one of the best young players in the country.jrgbfc wrote:McNeil definitely doesn't look quick but he just seems to have the ability to glide past players, makes it look so effortless.

Nick Pope looks like the most un Professional footballer like person I've ever seen. He looks like the lad who always used to get picked last in the school playground...Can certainly keep goal thoughAlargeClaret wrote:Funnily enough Pope beat the whole team ( Lennon included) over a (part mucking about) full pitch length sprint last week though I don’t fancy him on the wing

Re: Lack of pace
You have to remember that McNeil had the ball at his feet at the time, much harder to run with the ball than without.FactualFrank wrote:McNeil was never as quick as Arnold. They were equal, at best.

Re: Lack of pace
For those into their snooker, he reminds me of Judd Trump. Bloody good at what he does, one of the best, but not exactly the best looking fella in the world, but gets all the girls due to what he does.Andreshotboots wrote:Nick Pope looks like the most un Professional footballer like person I've ever seen.
