Ashley Hoskin

Post by Herts Clarets » Sun Sep 01, 2019 11:12 am

I was in Spoons yesterday before the game and Ash was sat behind us. I pointed him out to Herts Junior and showed him 'that goal' against Swansea. I had a good chat with Ash about current Claret matters and matches past. Was a very enjoyable 10 minutes and as he said, I may be an ex player but I am also a fan. Also mentioned the John Sitton foul back when he was starting out with us and I think he used more swear words than I know in reference to Sitton! Absolute thug.

Good lad is Ash.

Spoke to him at Wolves last week. As Herts said, he’s a good lad. I always wonder just how much that injury in the Sutton incident might have cost him.

I think he’s loving being a fan now and being able to do some away trips.

A good mate of mine was captain for him, when he was managing. He couldn’t speak highly enough. Apart from his man management it was his love of the job. Running around in his own car to pick lads up after their work to get them to the game.

Apparently, Sitton was one of the most mild-mannered people you could ever hope to meet...outside the changing rooms!!

Sounds like him. I know a few who have played in his teams and I'm still to hear a wrong word about him. He has so much enthusiasm for the game. Think he's coaching at Accy these days as well as supporting the Clarets when he can.

The wooden terracing at PNE nearly collapsed with the celebrations when he slapped in that goal in the Sherpa.

I remember that tackle on Hoskin, from being a very young lad. It was a shocker.

As a youngster watching Burnley at the time, when Hoskin came into the team, he stood out to me (admittedly with not much quality to compare him against, nor with much watching experience at the time of judging players).

He was definitely not the same when he came back.

Still plays for the ex clarets vets team - played against him last year on a boiling hot Sunday in May...they had Junior Bent playing and I so loved chasing after him in a 28 degree heat !
Hoskins was really sound with everyone during and after the game.
Paul Smith still has a very sweet left too !!

Straight red back in the day when GBH only warranted a yellow for a second offence. I was in the CF stand for that game and it was a shocking challenge.

Sitton got red and I think Ash continued for a few minutes on a broken leg.

Whenever Ashley comes up in a conversation I always think what could have been after that disgusting foul. Robbed him of something.

Wasn't Sitton the guy who when he became a manager was videoed at the end of the game bollocking his players using every expletive going and virtually ever other word was a swear word?

It sounds as though everyone thinks that Ash or Tash as he's always been known as a kid, is only a Claret since playing for the club. Ash has been going on the Turf since he was born with his older brother who was also a decent player.

I’m definitely not in the everyone group. Know him well and knew his dad really well too. He’s always been a Claret.

I remember going to watch a primary schools cup final (40 something years ago, which is a bit scary), with mates from St Nicholas', Church against whatever school in Huncoat Ash played for. He was the smallest and youngest kid on the pitch but really stood out. It was also a privilege to be at Swansea (in the home end) on a Friday night to see that goal. My mates from Swansea still talk about that goal.
