Post by Quickenthetempo » Mon Sep 02, 2019 6:38 pm

Just seen on Facebook that after 99 years the place is closing.

Sad times

With all the new housing around that area you would think they could attract decent custom. Supermarkets to blame.

I think most people on new housing estates live in Jam Butty land.

I was in there for a do last year, and the place was looking very shabby. I’m saddened, but not surprised to hear about this.

I think shabby may be too kind.

It's a bit Catch 22 as they fall into decline, people won't go because they are outdated and rough looking so there isn't any money to improve things.

Had many a good night in the Canteen but sadly a long time ago now.

It’s been on its last legs for years, I’m amazed it lasted as long as it did.

Lane ends gets busy these days despite being a little rough around the edges.

Mullards & the George are dead as was the Dugdale before it shut down. 99% of those I see complain in posts on Facebook when they close, never drink in them anyway

Great call, Mike.

Burnley A v Barnoldswick Town at Lowerhouse Canteen, April 1923........Tommy's final curtain call........A bumper crowd of nearly 2,000 turned out at the Canteen for Tommy's last game in Claret & Blue, probably the largest ever gathering at the venue.

I popped into two bars in Barlick yesterday there were two fellas in the second one ...I sampled a half of whatever the Barman recommended at £4.50 I realised why there were only two in.I went Back to the first one... Having exited swiftly the first time as it was empty... Thinking it might be busier it was...three people around the Bar. Strange Place is Barlick!

My mate stole a snooker ball from there in 2003.

Never been back.

Strange when Barlick is so near to Barley you would think they might get some of the overspill.

It would help with resident parking in Barley do the economy of Barlick some good and stop said residents moaning on here.

Win win win.
