Re: England v Australia 4th Test
Shouldn’t have mentioned losing a wicket. We’ve done just that. Burns gone.

Re: England v Australia 4th Test
Very true. He has batted for 64 overs though and he is being replaced by our previous opener, Jason Roy, surely nothing can go wrong now!
Re: England v Australia 4th Test
Tired looking shot by Burns but he has done his job.

How all the good work of earlier now means so much less.
England Test side of 2019.
Bit like watching the 1990s lot.

he doesn't know how to defend, I think whilst we all wanted him in the test squad after the WC we also knew this was a potential mistake.

Off for bad light

Can't see Australia enforcing the follow on as they would have to bat last on that pitch. I think they would try and score quickly, lead of around 400. Even with Ben Stokes, I doubt even he couldn't save them twice.Burnley1989 wrote:will we avoid the follow on? I suspect not

The Aussies have bowled really well this last session.
Roy played some good shots in his 22 but got a great ball. You simply can't react to movement off the seam that late.

That decision will be based on weather forecast Vs how must rest the 4 man bowling attack needs.Spijed wrote:Can't see Australia enforcing the follow on as they would have to bat last on that pitch. I can't believe Mrs Aclaret has stormed off upstairs to watch Emmerdale just as the T20 came on, I've only been watching the cricket since lunch time !

Re: England v Australia 4th Test
You get good balls in test cricket, but his forward defence is non-existent. He made the ball look better than it was to a top order batsman. He's not a five day player even in at 4 with an old ball.Quickenthetempo wrote:The Aussies have bowled really well this last session.

That's just it Buxton, she said bring me a brew up IF you get a minute, just to rub it in. I will do between innings, I'm not that bad a husbandBuxtonclaret wrote:Did she make you a brew before she left?

Try as they might Denly and Roy are not test class cricketers, time to try a couple of others.
Re: England v Australia 4th Test
Frustrating, as there is a good cricketer in Roy but not sure how long we can stick with him.
He's not the only one not performing at the moment.

I think Roy needs a go in the winter against lesser attacks.CleggHall wrote:Try as they might Denly and Roy are not test class cricketers, time to try a couple of others.
But who knows which way the team will go after the ashes?
It could be a clean sweep of changes.

Re: England v Australia 4th Test
Those 3 wickets in the last hour have tilted the balance in the Aussies favour, shame as Burns and Root battled really hard most of the afternoon, new ball in 8 overs to face as well,England have to battle and try and get to teatime tomorrow, one more big partnership and the game is still alive, but that's asking a lot against this attack.
Root played well but again failed to convert a good start, that's the major difference between him and Smith, once Smith gets set he usually goes big,3rd time in this series Root has got to 50 and failed to kick on.

Re: England v Australia 4th Test
I know he should be tougher, like most of the Aussies seem to be but they roughed Root up a real treat and took him out. Very interesting day coming up tomorrow. Hoping that Stokes gets good rest tonight and has the eye of the tiger in the morning. Surely going to need it. If we can last until mid/late afternoon should line up a cracker on Sunday. Glad we got some ticket now and booked Monday off

Re: England v Australia 4th Test
Why do Sky commentators insist on singling out every batsman that comes to the crease just to repeat the same old mantra?
"Joe Root is most vulnerable when he first comes to the crease", "They need to get Jason Roy early that is when he is at his most vulnerable", the same comments will be applied to Ben Stokes, Johnny Bairstow and Jos Buttler. Obviousy Cricket Viz must tell them that every batsman is most vulnerable in the early part of their innings so they pass this astounding piece of information on to the viewers.

Re: England v Australia 4th Test
There's a few things you can say about Root about his captaincy and failure to convert 50s into 100s but questioning his toughness after he had his plastic box broke on him and hit on the knee where there wasn't much protection is wide of the mark.mybloodisclaret wrote:I know he should be tougher, like most of the Aussies seem to be but they roughed Root up a real treat and took him out. Often plays through bad back pain as well.

Re: England v Australia 4th Test
Root and Stokes are our only test class batsmen, Smith and Labuschagne for the Aussies.
Theirs are better than ours as are their bowlers, we are currently very weak at test cricket.

I think this could be the best bowling attack the Aussies have sent over here.
Just no let up at all, even with the two on the sidelines.

Re: England v Australia 4th Test
Terrible shot from Bairstow AGAIN,why on earth is he aiming a big drive in this situation,Jason Roy fell in exactly the same fashion,i've nothing against playing attacking shots, but pick the right ball to hit FGS.

And now Stokes gone 243/7 and it’s looking likely that Australia will have the follow on option.

Not watching so don’t know what the conditions are like but surely the Aussies will enforce the follow-on and give themselves as much time as possible to take the 10 wickets.

We now need another 42 to take that option away from them but I’m not sure we will get them.Rileybobs wrote:Not watching so don’t know what the conditions are like but surely the Aussies will enforce the follow-on and give themselves as much time as possible to take the 10 wickets.
Basically there are just over five sessions left so if they get the chance and don’t enforce it then they won’t be able to bat for long.

Re: England v Australia 4th Test
After Stokes’ heroics in the last test I don’t think the Aussies would want to set England much less than 400. Enforcing the follow on would be the best option for them as they could easily topple us for 200 and not have to worry about risking the draw.

Re: England v Australia 4th Test
Doubt they could get a 400 lead too much before the end of today to be honest and they will want longer than that to bowl us out.Rileybobs wrote:After Stokes’ heroics in the last test I don’t think the Aussies would want to set England much less than 400. Re: England v Australia 4th Test
The longer England can prolong this 1st innings the better, takes time out of the game, and the runs are useful as well, the closer we can get to their score the longer they'll have to bat, ideally England don't want to start their 2nd innings today if possible.
