Re: Drink water injury
The club need to think about the effect of having Drinkwater around the place on the other players.
So far he has rocked up not fit enough to start a game until the end of August. & then gets so legless he can't remember what he has done gets himself injured so he will probably be out for a couple of months at least.
For this he picks up his reputed salary of £100 k per week.
Given he will only be available for a couple of months at the most and he is not our player why waste time trying to rehabilitate this player so another club can benefit?

There is no mention of anyone else being with him, particularly when he was being set upon. Is he a lone heavy drinking man with issues?

No-one deserves being set-upon and having their legs attempted to be broken. I've been the victim of a few slaps around the chops in the past because Ive been running my mouth off, but I'm a similar age as Drinkwater now and I don't behave like that now - if the stories are true. However, he has put himself into a position were attacks like that isn't that surprising.
Theres nothing wrong with a life outside football, but if I was a professional athlete, trying to get back to peak condition and get my career back on track - I'd just stay away from nightclubs. Theres too many dickheads - especially football fans... Ultimately though, you don't trollied and hit-on other peoples birds.
Imagine earning £100,000 a week and you still can't pull though...

Absolutely spot on, this moment can rejuvenate and fire him up into proving the doubters wrong and light the flame to repaying the loyalty shown if Dyche sticks by him.Lord Beamish wrote:The temptation, if this story is true, is to send him back; and if we did so, I would fully understand.
However, in such strange ways are loyalties won. It’s time for Sean Dyche to put his Man Management Skills into place.
Back him fully. Get his head sorted and help his career back on track. Make him feel like he belongs, and that he want’s to be part of the Club.

Tend not to read much on here however I wouldn't be surprised if it is the same UTC posters who were criticising the length of the loan period when he signed who have now changed their tune saying he is a bad apple and needs to go back to Chelsea now.

You are assuming Drinkwater has any form of moral compass and would show some 'loyalty'. My view is that Burnley are not a rehabilitation centre for reforming boozers from other football clubs.KRBFC wrote:Absolutely spot on, this moment can rejuvenate and fire him up into proving the doubters wrong and light the flame to repaying the loyalty shown if Dyche sticks by him.

Firstly, from what I was told last week there is no need to dispute the story even though it may be fabricated somewhat. As for sending him back, don’t think we can do that. There must be something in his contract and the club's code of conduct that if you bring the club into disrepute its a sackable offence. His own actions have contributed to him unavailable for selection.ClaretTony wrote:Firstly, from what I was told last week there is no need to dispute the story even though it may be fabricated somewhat. What’s he done that’s sackable? How has he brought the club into disrepute? I don’t think anyone can be happy with what he’s done but it was an incident in his own time and away from the club.claptrappers_union wrote:There much be something in the contract and the club's code of conduct that if you bring the club into disrepute its a sackable offence. We knew he was a dickhead when we signed him. No in-depth due diligence required, just google.
That said, I wouldn’t send him back. We don’t have a plethora of alternatives.
I’d try and get him fit and playing well.

In the meantime though, he can go alligator wrestling, cage fighting and TT racing - he's on £100,000 a week, doesn't matter if he plays or not - he doesn't give a ****.

If it's that serious, Dyche will send him back to Chelsea. If Dyche thinks he can salvage something then so be it. It's not great but that's up to the club. Personally I'd rather we didn't sign him and brought in someone on a permanent deal.

We need to get him fit and see what he has to offer.
If he doesn't make an impact here he will be finished at this level. Chelsea will more than likely extend his loan period on until the end of the season, so he will be given plenty of opportunity to prove himself

I was excited when we signed him, fit and focused he's a great player that would fit our system and style. The video interview the club did with him worried me though. His body language was all wrong. His mouth was saying one thing but his eyes were saying another. When Joey Barton came you could tell from Day 1 that he was going to be a great signing, just from the way he conducted himself. Drinkwater gave me the opposite impression.

Presuming we are paying half his wages, I just can't gather why that it's OK that from this week onwards we have to pay £800,000 to Chelsea FC/Danny Drinkwater for what, now? What value is he bringing to Burnley Football Club?
The club should lock him a small room with Sean Dyche and let him finish the job

Joey was something different. We all know some of the things he’s done in his life but his desire to play football was so strong, sometimes, as in the Man City v QPR game, letting him down on the field. Re: Drink water injury
I think this is how it should be. DD on loan at Burnley, so Sean has first "call" on DD's situation. Chelsea, of course, are the "parent club" and hold his contract until it expires.ClaretAndJew wrote:From a Sky New reporter on Twitter:

We can guess at/speculate that Burnley are paying half his reported £100k wages, though maybe the figure is a little different. Aren't there "good behaviour" clauses in footballers' contracts? I'd assume there will be something about "keeping yourself fit.....and available to play...." Getting drunk and, as a result, unfit to play, may well result in a fine. Or, maybe, when there is an international break drinking to excess is not a breach of contract?
If DD is fined, I'd assume it will be Chelsea making that decision - in conjunction with Burnley as the loan club.
Let's not get too "holier than thou" about this situation. No footballer is picked because their behaviour is exemplary and of a high moral standard - only that they can play great football. It's only when the negatives aren't good for the team that they should be left out. Of course, we all like players that are true role models for all the youngsters who may look up to them.
Sean Dyche and Mike Garlick will know what they need to do for Burnley's benefit. Let's be generous to DD and hope he can sort out whatever is troubling him and he can get his game back on track.
