Went to watch him in blackpool. Was actually a very good and funny night. And he was entertaining without being rude, crude or offensive. Usually sign of a good comedian.thatdberight wrote:It was about here that you lost me...

A "good" comedian? In what way is a comedian "good" if he isn't "rude", "crude" or "offensive"?cricketfieldclarets wrote:Went to watch him in blackpool. Was actually a very good and funny night. And he was entertaining without being rude, crude or offensive. Usually sign of a good comedian.
Who decides the criteria on those things?

BBC’s answer to Benidorm written by Derren Litten. Just trying to do the same in a different location.
Re: Scarborough - BBC1
I don’t like comedians who appear to get more laughs from being rude and offensive. Chubby Brown being a prime example.

Chubby Brown is massively racist and misogynistic.DCWat wrote:I don’t like comedians who appear to get more laughs from being rude and offensive. Chubby Brown being a prime example.
I don't want a comedian to pander to the lowest common denominator, I want them to make me think. Swearing or using serious topics as the basis of a joke doesn't have to be offensive though.

Agree that swearing doesn’t have to be offensive, but there are those out there who use certain words for laughs rather than provide much to think about.

I’m not saying offensive comedians aren’t good. I like that type too.ClaretAndJew wrote:A "good" comedian? In what way is a comedian "good" if he isn't "rude", "crude" or "offensive"?

But he’s in a similar bracket to Kevin bridges and Peter Kay etc. Doesn’t have to resort to the above to make people laugh. I imagine he could if he wanted to.
Some can’t.

Re: Scarborough - BBC1
A good comedian is about the audience. I’m not the audience for Peter Kay. My mate went to see Roy Chubby Brown, he had fond memories of watching him on videotape as a teenager. Went to see him as an adult and realised he was amongst Brexit Central.
I watched Jim Davidson on YouTube... there’s no jokes.
He reminded me of that dickhead in the pub that everybody humours. He just rhymed of his observations about gays, brown people, fat girls and mental people. And all the soldiers in the audience were lapping it up, ******* themselves.
I’d be embarrassed

There's a documentary about him from 2005 or so that shows him behind the scenes and at home and his opinions are quite similar to those he holds on stage, especially regarding Muslims or immigrants.

If you watched that rubbish last night mate you would understand what I mean, the last good sitcom anyone ever made was About forty years ago.......this last night was mind numbing drivel,I don't think I've ever heard Manford say anything funny....best thing about last night episode was a rather fat Claire Sweeney squeezed into a pair of jeans two sizes to small.Bosscat wrote:So you don't have his box set on the shelf behind the tellybox then Steve

Growing up in the 70s and 80s I thought Manning was a good comedian, in those days people were allowed to mock and laugh at EACH OTHER. Today you arnt allowed to laugh at certain things.Wile E Coyote wrote:Bernard Manning was very funny, its only latterly that the PC brigade have decided he wasnt.

Its written by the same bloke as Benidorm Derren LittenCirrus_Minor wrote:Very Benidormish
Some Actors crossing over.... The Spanish character has become an Italian... will probably have Steve Pemberton popping up next ....
Karaoke featuring heavily just like Benidorm... a hairdressers one of the main settings in the opening show...
Derren Litten hasn't much imagination..... just moved the plot from the Sun to Scarborough, Benidorm with rain (and less humour) but it is funner than that "Bus Driver" thing with Toby Jones... who shone in "Detectorists"

Re: Scarborough - BBC1
My Mum was watching a TV show earlier called "Love The Neighbour" from the 1970's. First time I've ever seen it.
The whole story of this episode was trying to sell the house because they had black neighbours, and the fact that having black neighbours means their house value is lower than the rest of the street.
The phrases "nig nog" were said quite often and also the use of white people "having pure, white thoughts" and black people having "black souls".
Crazy that it was just seen as normal. "It was just like that back then" me Mam said. Well thank **** it's changed.

Chubby Brown was hilarious. His timing and style were first class, if you could see past the foul language. As he pointed out many times 90% of his gags he was the butt of the joke yet folk called him sexist.
Sadly too long ago he went down the racist path when his career was solid without it. Even worse I believe these views to be his own views and not just his act and that is depressing.
