They didn't do badly considering they're not a real country.

Kosovo aren't bad either.

England are far too attack focussed. Good going forward but shocking defensively. Southgate needs to find a balance and possibly stop only picking defenders who play for top half clubs if England are ever to win anything.
Southgate’s style reminds me a lot of Eddie Howe which isn’t really a complement for a manager who used to be a defender!

Entertaining watch but far too sloppy at the back for my liking, this team won't win the Euro's defending like that.

Not sure why Mount takes precedence over Maddison.

Not sure why Barclay is a first choice.

Not sure, even when Trippief played, Barclay took the set pieces. He has no finesse.

Defensively flawed.

Going forward, lightning pace!

Good game to watch.

Crackers match that. The fans certainly got their moneys worth.

You have to wonder what's going on though, when Henderson is the last man 12 yards out from our goal.

because of the obsession to pass the ball out. Southgate would be ok if VVD was English

I thought Maguire was top class apart from his stupid kick in the box.

He was the only player to get forward and to pick out diagonal balls after we went behind.

Keane and Rice were far worse overall. Rice getting credit for winning the ball back for our 3rd?

Still. We're no Barcelona at the back and I don't think we will ever cut out mistakes. It will only be worse against better opposition and tournament games where nerves are highest.

Southgate is basically copying men city tactics with worse players.

Going forward maybe, but as a defender he isn't that good. The best defenders maybe make mistakes once every few games. Likes Stones, he'll make at least one cock-up per match.

The same goes for the rest of England's backline. They are very good, amongst the best in the world going forward, but when it comes to purely defending I think it's fair to say we are distinctly average and will be cut to ribbons by the best sides.

England continue to remind me of Ossie Ardiles Spurs team.

We look very, very, very, very, very good going forward but very, very, very poor at the back.

Certainly not boring though

Have to say what is Barkley doing in that team, and I don't get the hype about Rice.

Under previous managers we have been good defensively and poor in our attacking. At least we can now score goals for fun which is really positive.

However, the biggest problem as always will be doing it when it matters in the finals. This tends to be more of a mental issue when it gets to tournaments.

It doesn’t really help when you are playing poor teams throughout qualifying tbh but other teams like France and Germany seem to be able to flick the switch...

To be fair, people moaned that England were boring to watch. Doesn’t seem to be the case anymore.

Credit to Kosovo who gave it a real go - they played some kamikaze stuff at times but it shows some of the lesser teams that they don’t need to park the bus.

I think people will complain regardless. If we were winning 5-0 all the time that would no doubt be too repetitive and not competitive enough with the group stages being pointless.

Not convinced with Rice and would prefer Lingaard in. Also, think Foden is good enough even now, but they seem to be easing him in via the u21s first.

Not many winners either at club level. The other top nations are usually packed with winners. If you go into tournaments with 3/4 CL winners and 3/4 League winners from the season that helps a lot. This young side are starting to win things at club level now.

This England team is flawed but I'd rather watch them any day over the crap the so called Golden Generation used to dish up.

A very reasonable point. Though due to our rankings we always have to qualify beating ( mainly) utter gash teams then when we arrive at championships we inevitably fall when we play a world class team , though I think this side can certainly go toe to toe with any of the current euro sides .

We'll certainly struggle against some of the better sides, but we have a fluidity in attack which is entertaining to watch at least. I remember 10-15 years ago when Rooney and co would often get the basics like ball control horribly wrong. It reminded me of that scene in Space Jam where the NBA players have their talent stolen from them.

Indeed, but how much of the bad defending is down to manager instructions compared to the player? We know Keane played very well for Burnley and was capable with his feet but his form hasn't been fantastic both for the national team or Everton since he left.

When we play against better opposition Maguire won't be venturing forward so much, in fact the whole team will be far more defensive.

What matters is getting results and changing how you play based on the opposition. You can't slip up against the lesser teams by not attacking enough, but you also have to be able to balls to the wall defend when you play the good sides. So far England have done okay. I'd be more concerned if we shipped 3 goals against a better side when we were trying to be defensive.

I was at the game last night. Seems like I wasn't the only Claret there, I spotted a Burnley flag at the back of the stand just at the side of the Kosovo fans.
