Re: Kompany Testimonial
Yes, Joe Hart in the City goal.
Some quality on the pitch.
Wonder if its awkward with former players, managers coming back together.

It doesn’t take much to see why he isn’t the first name on the team sheet, look at the state of them hands!

Thought it was a great save, and I know he has come in for some stick, but no need for the name calling...

Pretty surprised Hart was allowed to play - I don't believe he should have been.

Why not?taio wrote:Pretty surprised Hart was allowed to play - I don't believe he should have been.
Many players play Wednesday and Saturday in competitive matches, i don't see any issue in Hart playing 45 mins on a Wednesday in a friendly and sitting on our bench on Saturday.
I watched the game, an and he hardly was tested. If anything it might have done him some good.
Re: Kompany Testimonial
Because if he had picked up an injury the club would have been heavily criticised by some people.MACCA wrote:Why not?

Re: Kompany Testimonial
Why on earth not? We have three other goalkeepers in the squad so it wouldn't have been a major problem for either to go on the bench. I wonder if Liverpool had any reservations about James Milner playing?taio wrote:Pretty surprised Hart was allowed to play - I don't believe he should have been.

I've explained why above. Risk of injury.ClaretTony wrote:Why on earth not? We have three other goalkeepers in the squad so it wouldn't have been a major problem for either to go on the bench. I wonder if Liverpool had any reservations about James Milner playing?
Re: Kompany Testimonial
Just as likely to pick up an injury in training/ under 23 game etc. Wasn't even a friendly really and he only played 45 mins.taio wrote:Because if he had picked up an injury the club would have been heavily criticised by some people.
Plus he didn't get injured.
In truth its probably done him good meeting up with his old pals and playing infront of the fans that love him, cant be easy sitting on the Burnley bench every week.
If anything, its great man management by SD IMO.
Re: Kompany Testimonial
Yes just as likely to pick up an injury in training etc. But that's not the point. Nobody could criticise that. But plenty of people would have found fault with the club had he been injured. Hindsight is a wonderful thing. A remote possibility but let's just say he dislocated his shoulder - do you think everyone would think it was right he played?MACCA wrote:Just as likely to pick up an injury in training/ under 23 game etc. Wasn't even a friendly really and he only played 45 mins.

Re: Kompany Testimonial
Hart sould have played, but disguised himself as Russ Abbott, so he didn’t upset the over-sensitive on here.

Wasn't at all bothered when I saw the line up, intact it made me stick to watching it all right through the build up.
Was good to see him play and he had a smile on his face all night, probably done him plenty of good. In fact doubt there will be a single negative from him playing.
Again, well done Mr Dyche, in my opinion its great man management.
Re: Kompany Testimonial
Fair enough. I just said I was pretty surprised, that's all. I can't think of a negative now either. But again that's not my point. Its no big deal though.MACCA wrote:Not for me.

not sure what your point is then - thought you'd referred to injury risktaio wrote:That's clearly not my point at all.
Re: Kompany Testimonial
If he say dislocated his shoulder in training nobody could criticise. If he say dislocated his shoulder in a testimonial some people would heavily criticise the club for allowing him to play while under contract with the club. Do you think everyone would still be happy that he played?ClaretTony wrote:not sure what your point is then - thought you'd referred to injury risk
As I say it's now no big deal and I just said I was pretty surprised that's all.
Re: Kompany Testimonial
As a side note, will insurance still be valid, and contract terms still be active and binding if he went and did something like this iff hid own back?
Example - a player goes off and plays a testimonial off his own back in his own time, and then does a cruciate. Will his contract and all insurance policies cover that scenario?
Just interesting where the line is drawn on such things.

Burnley will have been asked first, Hart won't have made that decision without our club supporting it.MACCA wrote:As a side note, will insurance still be valid, and contract terms still be active and binding if he went and did something like this iff hid own back?

Re: Kompany Testimonial
I’d be pretty happy if he’s restricted to friendlies to be honest.
Re: Kompany Testimonial
I know that, was just wondering what the case would be should someone decide to play without consent off their club/managerClaretTony wrote:Burnley will have been asked first, Hart won't have made that decision without our club supporting it.
I've played with a couple of lower league pros having a kick about, and I couldn't play my usual CB style ( if i got near them ) as was worried I'd injure them.
Not purposely obviously, just me being that bit slower in body and mind, and them knocking the ball away etc.
Re: Kompany Testimonial
With regards testimonials, who was the last Burnley player to get one?

Re: Kompany Testimonial
Disciplinary action I would think.MACCA wrote:was just wondering what the case would be should someone decide to play without consent off their club/manager
Happened with Willie Irvine who played in the John Angus testimonial. He was coming to the end of his career at Halifax but they had a game. He wasn't in the team, wasn't likely to be in the team but they refused him permission to play. Given he was leaving a week or so later, he just played.
Re: Kompany Testimonial
You know exactly where he is coming from. It’s a fair point tbh. He’s extremely unlikely to get injured granted and more likely to get injured training with us. But the point he is making is that he was involved in a sporting activity not related to either BFC or England. Doesn’t matter if it was a testimonial/friendly.ClaretTony wrote:not sure what your point is then - thought you'd referred to injury risk

Didn't think the excuse of, sorry boss I've picked up an injury, I got chopped off a fat lad playing in a friendly match on wednesday night.

Player contracts will be tight on this I would think ensuring they don't engage in anything like that without club permission.MACCA wrote:Ahh I see.

Re: Kompany Testimonial
Well they came through unscathed, and its only been the odd one off here and there.
Maybe they've realised it isnt worth it, or that they'll be in hot water if they get injured, as it's been a good 18 months since they last played, and they wasn't first team regulars like they are now.
