nobody expects sainthood, but perhaps on those wages they should expect professionalism and integrity. Most other 20 odd year olds are not playing football for a living on that sort of cash.bfcmik wrote:What a load of b*ll*cks. £50k per week is what gets you a 2nd line standard of player - even the full £100k per week does not often get you a difference maker of a midfielder. What £50k a week gets you in the Premier League is a good player or a very good player who needs to reinvent their career following injuries (e.g. Steven Defour) or who needs to get back to proving themselves week, in week out(e.g. Danny Drinkwater).
All players are bought for their footballing abilities not for there degree of sainthood. He is just an ordinary bloke who was blessed with talents that get people to play him loads of dosh and therefore will do, to an extent, the same things any 20 odd year old would do.
Its a short career, plenty of time for nightclubs and drinking antics when its all over.

Oh, so by being with other clarets, that somehow lessens the problem, and you think a fortnight is some kind of magical period of time when striving to become an athlete can be put on hold ?bfcmik wrote:And plenty of time 2 weeks before the next game. What else was he going to say? He’s played the diplomatic line because that’s the only one one he could play.
Fact is, a player whose wages we’re paying a hefty proportion of, is out for a number of weeks, and that’s before getting back to match fitness levels. All because he couldn’t resist hitting the town, even when gifted a golden opportunity to get back to playing first team football. Forgive me if I hold back on the bunting.

What is the fascination with needing to know exact dates, do we want opposing teams to know our line up a week in advance of a game to help them set themselves up?Granny WeatherWax wrote:And he said it was something and nothing after the Wolves game.
As crazy as everyone needing to know the Brexit negotiation tactics ahead of them happening.

Re: ARTICLE: Dyche speaks on Drinkwater
Sean Dyche is handling this exactly how a good manager should handle it. He's handled the public/media with a polite "nothing to see here, move along" statement. Whatever has gone on inside the club stays inside the club. He's given DD a chance to sort things out ("he's old enough.... etc) and he's protected the club's reputation.

Maybe Vydra should start going out on the lash and causing himself some self inflicted injuries then? Not really sure why Drinkwater gets a second chance while Vydra never been given one in the first place. Certainly has his favourites does our Sean.

If everything connected to the club makes you whinge non stop why do you bother with it ? The board, the players, club staff all seem to upset you a lot wouldn't you be better with a different hobby ?

Re: ARTICLE: Dyche speaks on Drinkwater
I remember Matej Vydra starting a number of games last season (someone else will quote the exact number). Isn't that quite a number of chances?jrgbfc wrote:Maybe Vydra should start going out on the lash and causing himself some self inflicted injuries then? Of course, all Burnley players get "second chances" - it's how you respond to those opportunities that matters. Let's see how the next few months turn out for DD - most of his "second chance" will be inside the club, that's all Sean Dyche has done at this stage - that's all he can do at this stage - and that's the right thing to do for the good of the club.

Its crazy isn't it, I've no problem with people having the odd moan at games but some folk literally moan none stop about anything Burnley related and I just sit there wondering why you would bother going or following Burnley if its makes you so unhappy and grumpy.claretonthecoast1882 wrote:If everything connected to the club makes you whinge non stop why do you bother with it ? Re: ARTICLE: Dyche speaks on Drinkwater
I expect Burnley explored all the options re Drinkwater and probably sending him back to Chelsea was not one of them. Also, the fact is that the club has little or no experienced cover in the central midfield area. So they have had to make the best of what has so far been a bad job.
On the plus side the way the fixtures pan out, if he is ready to play in the first team in four weeks he will only miss four games and be available for 12 more.

This whole episode may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.
This scenario may pan out. Dyche gives him last chance but he has not played come January.
Chelsea want rid because of disciplinary issues, nobody else will touch him with a bargepole and we sign a penitent for next to nothing now desperate to repay the trust Dyche has put in him

Re: ARTICLE: Dyche speaks on Drinkwater
we have all had days of shame and most of us have had good hidings either when drinking or speaking when we should be listening or both.
Dyche will back him in private and in public but will have told him a few home truths
The only other problem is that it doesn't look good on the back of an earlier drink drive ban.
Now its up to Drinkwater and us to make it work. He would be a fool not to at this stage in has career. Lets hope this is the kick (ing) he needs

He aint in breach at Chelsea and he's got £100k per week in the bank till 2022. It's a nice thought but we are not signing DD anytime soon so lets hope he gets fit and gets playing and if things go well maybe we manage to extend his loan in Jan to end of season and get some good value for the money we are now paying himDown_Rover wrote:We will pay his reasonable salary when nobody else will pay him anything. Would you walk away from a 100 grand a week contract knowing at 30 years old you're never going to earn anywhere near that sort of money ever again?Down_Rover wrote:This whole episode may turn out to be a blessing in disguise.

Re: ARTICLE: Dyche speaks on Drinkwater
Transfers don't have to be different from loans you know. Just because you sign a player permanently it doesn't mean you have to pay the same wages as the club they come from.
A deal could be done where we sign him and Chelsea top off his wages for the remainder of his contract there.
That's probably how we signed Hart.
People are assuming because he's paid so much we can't afford his wages but even if we were to pay all 100k it's still only twice what some other players earn and amounts to 5m a year.
We can afford that.

But I am interested to know whether you have read his contract. Drink driving together with this incident could well be a breach of contract. Damn sure of that if you are told so by Roman’s lawyers
