Re: Drummers
I know Ged. Used to teach drums at college. Played with him a couple of times. Drummed in Black Grape and worked with Peter Gabriel and Dave Gilmore amongst others. Thoroughly nice bloke as well!Dazzler wrote:I'll throw one in...

Re: Drummers
Anyone with an interest in more avant-garde music or an interest in drumming or rhythm in general needs to have a listen to this: Malcom Braff (Brazilian jazz musician - on the piano) and Stephane Galland (Belgian jazz drummer). Galland utilises what's been described as micro-rhythm - a deliberate, calculated sort of rhythmic drag which I imagine must be nigh-on impossible to notate but (somehow) gives an incredible smooth walking feel whilst maintaining pulse. (Insofar as a metrically perfect 4/4 would feel like goose-stepping). Just look at his hi-hat discipline. It's like an atomic clock. It's bloody incredible if you're into this kind of stuff.

Re: Drummers
I always classed Ginger Baker as the best drummer in his pomp. Other notable names are the late BJ Wilson of Procol Harum and for me the best contemporary drummer is Carter Beauford of DMB.

Re: Drummers
My vote goes to Brian Downey of Thin Lizzy. Definitely up there.
