We’ve never had such stiff competition for places...perhaps we could try Vyagra and Wood. Barnes and Jay were both a bit limp yesterday

He’s a striker for god sake. Course Strikers are gonna be judged on goals and assists.

And as for your slagging off comment, absolutely pathetic, saying someone is in poor form and perhaps someone else deserves is a chance is not slagging the club off. Grow up.

Vydra offered a real moment of clarity in a game of tight margins. There are no easy games in this league, that's why we have to take it one game at a time. We're not market leaders - and it's one of the toughest markets I've known - but overall, the performance levels from the group were good. Woody, Barnesy, Corky, Popey, Westy, and Tarkowski-y all understand the framework, which is crucial when playing against elite level athletes. Did anyone see the diving? When are they going to sort it out - a yellow card isn't enough. Lennon-y could have gone down but didn't; sometimes we are too honest.

Wood has been poor for the first five games this season. He has contributed nothing except for being offside more than anyone else.
He needs benching, either start with Barnes and JRod or Barnes and Vydra against the carrot crunchers.

I was at the game yesterday, Wood and Barnes were pretty poor. But it didn't help that we were floating balls up to them with their back to goal - Brighton were good in the air and punished us. We need to find a way to win when plan A isn't working.

In games like that, Vydra at least offers something a bit different. I'd have liked to see him come on a little earlier as our first sub rather than a last resort.

To be fair as much as relying on others you need to create your own chances.

To be fair I’m a huge wood fan. And he has been dreadful.

Is there a difference between how you just described Vydra and Wood in your opinion St Albans? Just askin like....
I wouldn't describe Wood as "lightweight" no and whilst he has struggled this season his record indicates he has goals in him at this level. Both he and Barnes were dominated by Brighton's centre-backs yesterday and Dyche rightly changed things. However the question is "Should Vydra start ?" i.e. ahead of Wood or Barnes and I don't think he has (ever) done enough to suggest this. Have him on the bench to bring on as part of a "Plan B" sure but not a starter for me.

Are Barnes & Woods getting sussed,I just wish Dyche would mix it up now and then up front,I worry that Vydra will leave us without us seeing his full potential :(.

The main reason Wood (and Barnes) weren't very good yesterday was because we were lumping it up to them and they had 4 big centre backs dealing with it quite easily.

With the way we are set up and with the other players we have in the team, then Vydra and Rodders will never be the answer to the question.

As soon as that?
To be fair to Dyche, he does give players plenty of time. Problem is, he tends to wait for longer than many of us would. Darikwa a perfect example. It breeds loyalty, but is he too nice? After him saying that everyone is playing for the shirt, I thought he'd be a little more ruthless this season. Is 5 games too early, or is it time to we saw it?

It's not necessarily that he should start, it's that he should come on at the 60-65 min mark if the direct hoof it up to Wood/Barnes tactic isn't working.

J Rod will be above Vydra in the pecking order.
SD didn't want Vydra...

Vydra has a bit of Pace about him while wood appears to have his Bootlaces tied together. Give the Lad a chance.

I'm all for giving Vydra a start (or three) BUT that's when we're playing crap, results are poor and we keep trotting out the same faces and formation and hoping things will change. Right now we look more than ok and whilst Wood is as wooden as ever and you can definitely dissect the performances of one or two others (Pieters?) and be critical, whilst things are fine, leave alone. Where I get frustrated is when things are not fine and we don't seem to try all available options and Vydra is certainly one available option.

Paul Waine wrote:Hi Frank, I wasn't at the AMEX and no stream. What did Vydra do other than lay it back to Hendrick? He was on for around 20 mins, so you must have seen more than one lay back?
I think the problem that people miss with Vydra is his lack of game time. Even if he did only that one good thing in 20 minutes it's one good thing more than Wood has done in quite a few games and more game time would make him sharper. I think the little snatches we have seen him play we seem to have a good player there that hasn't been used (in my opinion) for personal reasons but hopefully that may have been sorted. Wood is a good player but unfortunately he is suffering a serious drop in form and he probably needs resting to give him that proverbial kick up the backside. J-Rod is another option of course but when we have seen him so far he has been quite a way from outstanding.

I would be very firmly in favour of giving Vydra an extended run in the starting eleven if only to make it a do or die situation on his future with us. If we let him go after no more than a handful of sub appearances it would be a shame.

I find it amazing how many people on this board are so blasé about us being in the EPL.

People would happily throw in untested youngsters or give someone an extended run in the team on the off chance it may work at some point.

The bigger picture is the club needs to stay in the EPL and thankfully Sean Dyche knows his players and their strengths and continues to keep us here and fighting against bigger and more free spending clubs.

It may be cautious and it may not always be the most thrilling when we are a bit off it like we were in the 2nd half on Saturday but it makes it well worth it when we get days like at Stamford Bridge, Wembley or Old Trafford or at home to United, City, Liverpool, Spurs and that's forgetting our 7th place finish and (ableit short) European adventure.

I wouldn't be starting Vydra, and although I think Wood could probably do with being replaced for a game or 2, I'm not sure Norwich is the one.
Norwich playing the attacking football they are will need a dose of the 'difficult game against Burnley' that every other team struggles with, and that includes Wood.

I've definitely have Hendrick in for Lennon. I don't see Lennon offering anything the Hendrick wouldn't.
I've also taken Wood out of my Fantasy team, which tends to mean he'll get a hat-trick on Saturday... hopefully
