Bit of a setback at Deepdale but Jimmy Mac, as always, was a big miss.

Alex Elder after his initial mistake for Finney's goal was outstanding and here to stay.

What Elder mistake? Finney headed home a corner from the side of the pitch.

From my memory Alex clearly lost Finney from the corner, but then quickly recovered to give a man of the match performance.

No suggestion of it at all. Angus was at fault giving away the corner and no mention whatsoever of Elder being at fault in the reports.

How about this observation from Tim Quelch..........."Poor Alex made a disastrous start, losing his winger, Tom Finney, at a 6th minute corner. The 'Preston plumber' took full advantage, heading in Sammy Taylor's high cross. It was enough to win the game but Elder proved he was a tough competitor, emerging as Burnley's undisputed 'man of the match'. Finney hardly had a look in after his early gift and Elder's hold on him was so tight that the great man was forced to roam. But wherever Finney went, Elder was sure to follow."..........
