Re: Lancashire Champions?
Northants only got one batting bonus point ( 217 all out ), and with Lancashire getting two for their 259 all out, Lancashire only needed 5 points even if Northants won their last two games, with maximum bonus points ... so yes, they are Champions of Division 2 !
Re: Lancashire Champions?
And just got a second bowling point to ice the cake.

Middlesex making a fist of their reply at 35/6
It's been great watching Lancs this season in all forms of the game both home and away.

Re: Lancashire Champions?
Yes it's been a great season but partly spoiled by the decision by Vilas to bowl Livingstone in the 19th over at Durham. Still can't get my head around that decision!

Has to be one of the weirdest decisions I've ever seen.Leisure wrote:Yes it's been a great season but partly spoiled by the decision by Vilas to bowl Livingstone in the 19th over at Durham. Still can't get my head around that decision!
Not just cricket, any sport.

Another 5 wickets for Tom Bailey he's had a great season, should be another win from here.
Re: Lancashire Champions?
Why do you never see Bailey mentioned as a potential England call up? Always seems to be doing really well for Lancs.tiger76 wrote:Another 5 wickets for Tom Bailey he's had a great season, should be another win from here.

Good considering some of the call-up's in recent years,Craig Overton is no better than Tom and he's played test cricket,i fear at 28 Bailey's chance of an England call may have passed.Foulthrow wrote:Why do you never see Bailey mentioned as a potential England call up? Apparently it is his 8th 5 wicket haul - and 4 of them have been against Middlesex!tiger76 wrote:Another 5 wickets for Tom Bailey he's had a great season, should be another win from here.

Bring Lyth and Ballance back into the England squad for the winter tours.
They have had a great morning managing 9 between them.

Re: Lancashire Champions?
John Simpson who made 167 not out for Middlesex played for Haslingden and Lancashire and if I am not mistaken is the son of Jack Simpson who was a fine wicketkeeper / batsman for Ramsbottom. If it is he used to come over to Rishton as a kid every Tuesday and Thursday nights for nets when Peter Sleep was pro as his dad rated their set up the best in the Lancs League.

I did my level one cricket coaching badge with John who was about 16 at the time.tybfc wrote:John Simpson who made 167 not out for Middlesex played for Haslingden and Lancashire and if I am not mistaken is the son of Jack Simpson who was a fine wicketkeeper / batsman for Ramsbottom. He was treated like royalty as the instructors knew he was going to the top.
Shame Lancs didn't see it.
They prefer getting lads from Derby, rather than local lads.

Re: Lancashire Champions?
A better day for Lancs 271-6,but we have just lost 3 quick wickets, after getting into a strong position.Lead of nearly 200 with 4 wickets remaining could be tight on the last day, really need 250+ to give the bowlers enough to play with.
Jennings unlucky not to make a ton dismissed for 97.

Re: Lancashire Champions?
Another plug for Lyth and Ballance who have increased their total added scores in the second innings to eleven, an increase of two from the first.
Re: Lancashire Champions?
Is that strictly true? Looking at the team playing today, I make it Davies, Bohannon, Livingstone, Jones, Croft, Bailey, Mahmood, and Parkinson who were all born in the traditional county boundaries of Lancashire. Add in a few others from the squad, Anderson, Hameed, Guest, Lamb, Lester, Hurt, Gleeson...Quickenthetempo wrote: They prefer getting lads from Derby, rather than local lads.

It's normally the case, over the years.ChrisG wrote:Is that strictly true? There's plenty of lads from around here who have had to go to other counties rather than Lancashire to have a crack at the county game.

Been some dress signed over the last few years though. Nathan Buck one that stands out
Re: Lancashire Champions?
There does seem a very disproportionate number from Preston/Blackpool in that squad. Only two from East East Lancs, Anderson & Davies.Quickenthetempo wrote:It's normally the case, over the years.

In the late 90s Lancashire coaches were always trying to get the best youngsters from the Ribb league into the Northern league.ChrisG wrote:There does seem a very disproportionate number from Preston/Blackpool in that squad. Only two from East East Lancs, Anderson & Davies.
Lancs used to have an U20s side in the league as well.
The Lancs league might get a bit more attention now off them with the standard being raised in the top division.

Middlesex need 270 to win from 85 overs, after some good hitting this morning, from Lancs.

Yorkshire went close.
Only got beaten by 433 runs. At least they got the afternoon off to sunbathe after winning nothing again.

It takes some sort of genius to lose by 433 runs after reducing the opposition to 39-5 on the first morning.tybfc wrote:Yorkshire went close.

Re: Lancashire Champions?
Apparently next season team numbers are being reversed with 10 in First Division and 8 in the second tier. This year only one club relegated and three promoted
Middlesex now 83-5
Middlesex now 83-5
Re: Lancashire Champions?
Msex were 135-5 but collapsed to 165 all out Andersson and Roland-jones put up some resistance so that is another 21 points for the Red rose

Re: Lancashire Champions?
Bailey with his 2nd 5 wicket haul in the match,he's going to be crucial next season.
Lancashire must be brimming with confidence in the 4 day game, let's hope that spills over to next spring, and our Division 1 return.
Oh! also the small matter of a Roses match, that should attract a sell out crowd at OT.

I'm friends with quite a keen Yorkshire member on Facebook. Seems like the natives aren't happy at all with this season and want Gale gone as coach and Darren Lehman in.tybfc wrote:Yorkshire went close.

Why not? will depend when the game is scheduled and how well both teams are doing, but it's usually one of the better attended CC fixtures.Local cricketer wrote:A sell out for a 4 day game

Really good young talent is being told/encouraged by coaches and the like from league clubs and from Old Trafford that they must try to play in the Liverpool and District League as that's the strongest league around right now and where Lancs expect genuinely talented young lads to prove themselves.Quickenthetempo wrote:In the late 90s Lancashire coaches were always trying to get the best youngsters from the Ribb league into the Northern league.

The coaches say they want players playing on the fastest decks possible.
