Midfield 3
Could we see a midfield 3 against Norwich?
Dyche changed the formation against Brighton to a midfield 3 of Hendrick, Westwood, McNeil. Which lead to the goal at the end of the game. I wouldn’t be against that midfield 3 starting against Norwich.

Re: Midfield 3
There's as much chance of that as there is having the three Billy-goats gruff in midfield.

Re: Midfield 3
At the end of the game my son said to me that we ended up playing 433 and I would be happy to give it a try. And also playing it out from the back with Pope actually passing it to one of our players rather than the hit and hope hoofball that got us nowhere in the second half at Brighton. They might even practice both at Gawthorpe during the week.
Re: Midfield 3
It's a good a time as any to change some personnel, not many could argue if they did get a rest.
Wood out of form, a few quiet displays from a couple, and the subs making a great impact last time out.
You want the bench to impact the game, and you have a squad for that reason, as well as them stepping in and getting a chance when form or performance dips.
Sean Dyche's loyalty is his strength sometimes, but also his downfall.
Whatever happens, 4 points from the next 2 games are what we should be targeting, starting with a good performance and something Saturday.
Although I'm not saying we should play 433, but hoping and thinking at least some change will be made.

I'd take us playing forward passes out wide. Our England style back and side passing gets you knowhere.
Pass and move forward ,as with our goal at Brighton is the way to go

Could only watch part of match on a dodgy internet link but what seemed obvious was the lack of creativity from midfield, zilch.
No brady, gudmundsson, and of course defour.
Then later managed to see the equalizing goal, wow, all on the deck, straight down the middle, a thing of beauty. More of that please!

Re: Midfield 3
Going with a full on attacking 433 against Norwich would be crazy. Norwich's strength is in their open attacking play whilst ours is keeping things tight and edging the margins. To go 433 would play into their hands as they are a better attacking side and instead we should just contain them and let them make the mistakes to allow us to take control of the game.
Only way we'd play 3 in the middle is with Cork, Westwood and Hendrick and that would leave Barnes as the lone striker which is where he looks at his most ineffective.

100% agree (with our injury depletion)

Incredibly presumptuous
4-2-3-1 (just an idea!!!!)
Cork Westwood
Vydra mcNeil Barnes
Rodriguez
(rabidly boring waiting for Wood to click)

We have basically 6 defenders with a 4-2-3-1. Throw in Barnes who is a prodigious worker. Enough?????Devils_Advocate wrote:In your team is it Vydra and Barnes role to track back whenever Norwich have the ball and support our fullbacks defend against their wingers and full backs?

Look its only your opinion so dont wanna get too deep but was a genuine question who picks up the defensive duties in front of our fullbacks. It just seems a formation plucked out of the air that would have no balance or functionality in a real game situation.HiroshimaClaret wrote:We have basically 6 defenders with a 4-2-3-1. Hey...have a 5-yr-old and a 3-yr-old and 8pm here!!!!! Just floating any variation on 4-4-2 as a template for more aggression and attacking intent at home against a non-Top 6 team.Devils_Advocate wrote:Look its only your opinion so dont wanna get too deep but was a genuine question who picks up the defensive duties in front of our fullbacks. This is true.
Re: Midfield 3
Midfield trio for me would play into Norwich’s hands. Their weakness is clearly their defence so we need 2 up top to cause as much chaos as possible. Get Dwight 1v1 with their fullback and get crosses delivered.
We are a better team than Norwich City, this weekend’s result or not. We just need to prove it.

We may be better organised and more streetwise, we certainly aren't a better footballing side than them.SGr wrote:Midfield trio for me would play into Norwich’s hands. Just because we play direct at times people forget that we've scored some very good goals in the Premier league. Saturday being a prime example. On the floor from start to finish.jrgbfc wrote:We may be better organised and more streetwise, we certainly aren't a better footballing side than them.

Re: Midfield 3
We certainly do, Sean Dyche obviously likes mixing up our base of attack and with the players we have available to us you have to say it works in general. The brutal reality is we don't have the composure or ability on the ball to do it for 90 minutes, especially against the big teams. We have to be more direct at times just to get up the pitch and pressure the opposition's defence. What I'd like to see, and I do believe SD wants to evolve it, is for us to have more confidence to play through the thirds against teams like Brighton.
Re: Midfield 3
5-3-1 with Brady and JBG as wingbacks:
Pope
Tarks Gibson Mee
JBG Hendrick Cork Westwood Brady
Barnes
That'd be a shock to everyone (especially Norwich)

Re: Midfield 3
I personally think.
433 would be great against Norwich. There strength is in midfield. They will pass us of the park on Saturday. An extra man in midfield would hopefully assist in getting a better grip on the game.
I would go something like
Pope
Lawton, Tarks, Mee, Taylor
Westwood, Hendrick, McNeil
Rodriguez, Vydra (or wood), Barnes

Re: Midfield 3
It will be the same starting 11 against Norwich and Dyche won’t make any substitutions until at least the 80th minute. Dyche is too predictable and every manager is now wise to it.
Dyche is tactically inept. He has no plan B at all. If things aren’t going to plan and playing the same starting 11 and making no subs as he always has done doesn’t work he looks completely lost and out of his depth but we can’t say anything bad about him due to him having a pub named after him.

Probably right, Hendrick in and that will be it. No problem with him starting Barnes and Wood as long as he's willing to change it early if we're level or behind and arent looking livelyjrgbfc wrote:Don't think theres any chance of him dropping Wood yet.

Sean Dyche needs a media upgrade, he needs to set his stall out as a New English Avant Gardist. Emerging donned in a beret, a monocle, and a black leather trenchcoat designed by a boutique Milanian fashion house, Dyche will select the following team, loosely arranged in an experimental 3-1-3-2-1 formation:
----------------------POPE---------------------------------------
-----TARKOWSKI---MEE-----GIBSON-----------------
-----------------------CORK--------------------------------------
------HENDRICK----WESTWOOD----MCNEIL------

Despite making all 3 subs before you claim he doesn't make any in a game just 5 days ago ?
As for the rest of this post a new entry in the whopper chart

Re: Midfield 3
Judging from the posts on here and the impact he made when he came on at Brighton it seems as though, just possibly, Vydra's time may have come. I hope so because when we have seen him he looks a decent player who just needs more game time to sharpen up. Could this be - watch this space as they say.
