Edinburgh New Years Eve
Edinburgh New Years Eve
4 of us (2 couples) heading up to Edinburgh for New Years Eve. We are looking for somewhere that will do food followed by music, ideally something quite upbeat. Has anybody got any recommendations?

Just to be in the City on NYE will be an experience of a lifetime in it self, enjoy it buddy.
Re: Edinburgh New Years Eve
Personally when I've done NYE in Edinburgh I wouldn't want to just be in one place. The fun was in wandering between different bars, drinks on the street with the crowds, etc

Bring your passports?
Sorry, wrong thread.... .
More seriously, it depends what you want.
As you will have discovered by following the link, central Edinburgh - Princes Street Gardens, Waverley, etc., is a closed off access by ticket only multi-stage venue for the whole 'official' Hogmanay event. Thousands of people watch the (name) live bands on the various stages before the fireworks on the Castle herald the new year.
Being part of this 'all of humanity' throng is, in one sense, what it is all about. But getting 8 tickets might be difficult / expensive (although well worth it if that is what you want to do). It has to be said, that the official Edinburgh Hogmanay thing has become a bucket list item nowadays (e.g., tickets were on sale during the other bucket list Edinburgh thing, the Fringe).
Beyond this though (literally) the rest of the city is very much in party mode on Hogmanay night. Also, the fireworks on the Castle rock are (or certainly were) replicated on 6 other hills throughout the city. Be warned though, like anywhere else, you might have to have pre-arranged tickets or similar to get into popular venues (pubs, clubs, etc.).
So basically, do your research using the website and other such information and decide what is best for you and your entourage and book asap!!

Re: Edinburgh New Years Eve
As Stalbansclaret correctly says, I do indeed live in Edinburgh, and have indeed been to gigs at the Usher Hall.
And I have been to see The Bunnymen there as well as a couple of other things featuring a then partner and my youngest daughter on stage as part of musical ensembles; the Usher Hall is very much an old fashioned music venue (think a mini-version of the Royal Albert Hall - it's Edinburgh's traditional concert hall formerly and maybe still mainly devoted to classical and opera).
As such, it features balconies and stalls and is an all- (uncomfortable!) seating venue.
It is quite intimate though and although the seating will be restrictive, seeing Snow Patrol there, I should imagine, would be a good do.
Maybe look out for restrictive Bob Lordesque seats in the balconies (pillars, etc.); I'd definitely go for the front stalls if I was you. But don't expect a mosh pit and crowd-surfing.....

Nah, never been to the Bridgewater Hall. I would say just go for it given you are obviously a Snow Patrol fan and make a day out in Edinburgh by using the Fife Circle trains off the back of it (the Usher Hall being a 20 - 25 minute walk at the most to either Waverley or Haymarket).

Of course if you know someone who loves thee then you can get a residents discount on Hogmanay tickets. We did that when we lived there.
