Clarets for Foodbanks v Norwich

Post by ClaretTony » Wed Sep 18, 2019 11:34 am

The wheelie bins will be out again this Saturday from 1:30 manned by members of London Clarets. They will be delighted to accept food items from you.

It was a big success at the Liverpool game but if you can spare an item or two this Saturday it will help the Community Kitchen to help those in need.

Tinned meat and fish
Tinned fruit and vegetables
Tinned beans and spaghetti
Tinned or packet soup
Tea and coffee
Long life UHT milk and juice
Dried or tinned pet food
Toiletries / household items

We’ve had some, yes, but we can’t expect anything like the response we had from the Liverpool fans.

Maybe Delia will cook something for us.

A couple of friends of mine forgot at the Liverpool game but have items ready this week. The lady who lives next door to one of them doesn’t go on the Turf but she’s read about the collections and is sending him down with her donation too.

Sorry to hear that, hope it's nothing serious and you are soon back on your feet.

Don't worry - I'll stick an extra tin in my bag.

I’ve sat with Tony for over a decade now and I can confirm that his half-time treat has never changed...

A small cup of pea and mint soup from the flask.
A hunk of crusty bread
And a strawberry MullerRice

turned up at 2:50pm with several tins...but no collection bins! :o

Steward told me they'd packed up!

I did manage to 'smuggle' produce through the turnstiles but surely collectors could have remained until kick-off!

many others were left with tins and no collection bin :(

Please pass this on to the designated collectors for the Everton match

but surely collectors could have remained until kick off?

The people manning the bins are supporters who have volunteered. Not under any circumstances am I going to ask them to stay until kick off because I don't expect any of them should be missing that kick off. We do have a small teething problem at the moment with returning the bins. Once that's resolved it could mean the bins are out later, but don't expect them to be there until kick off.

I was only disapointed 'cos I had 5 tins to hide from turnstile steward -

as I wasn't the only one left with produce I thought it worth mentioning so it could be sorted for next match.

No real complaint and certainly no criticism of anyone who volunteers - hope it was a successful as Liverpool game!

...pilchards + peaches for half-time refreshment! :D
