Taxi to Manchester
Taxi to Manchester
I am coming over to England for the Chelsea home game. My flight back is early Sunday morning so I have booked a hotel close to Manchester Airport. Given that the Chelsea match is now a late kick off I am thinking of booking a taxi from Turf Moor to the hotel. Any suggestions for a reputable taxi firm please and any idea what the trip will cost?
Many thanks

Get yourself to the New Brew-m for an hour after the game to let the traffic die down, get picked up from there, and you'll be in msnchester for 19:00.
Wouldn't envisage it being much more than £40-£50 ( but ring for a quote first, they'll not be beaten on price )

Re: Taxi to Manchester
Max Cabs are notoriously cheap, and have pretty shoddy service. Pretty sure they do it for £25 still to accy so can't imagine it being much over £30 from Burnley.
I use them and they're fine, just don't expect a good service, it's cheap for a reason!

If you ring and book in advance and want a cheap taxi, theres no where better.
Never been late or let down by them, when ordered in advance.
I want a taxi to get me to a place on time, not sure what other "service" you need when getting a taxi.
Re: Taxi to Manchester
You could also try Bettys (from Gt Harwood) 01254888888. Similar price to Maxs and very reliable. We use them for our home games.

Re: Taxi to Manchester
You could always jump on the X43 bus from Burnley bus station, get off outside Victoria train station in Manchester and get a quick tram to the airport on the metrolink from there. Will Cost cost you around £15-£20 at a guess.jtv wrote:I am coming over to England for the Chelsea home game. Re: Taxi to Manchester
Id say this, but stay on the bus to Chorlton Street, walk over to piccadilly train station, and get the train to the airport. the metro is a right dog leg.tybfc wrote:You could always jump on the X43 bus from Burnley bus station, get off outside Victoria train station in Manchester and get a quick tram to the airport on the metrolink from there. (Worth checking if there isnt a train connection you can make via salford crescent / bolton or blackburn tbf)
Re: Taxi to Manchester
Suppose it depends if you want to mess around on busy public transport, which is unreliable, involves queuing and/or walking around in possible poor weather.
Or door to door service where you stay warm and dry.
I'd prefer a nice pint or 2 in the time saved.
I doubt the cost will be much different.

Re: Taxi to Manchester
Be careful with this, it’s the Accy Max Cabs that are cheap and the Burnley ones are different.MACCA wrote:Max Cabs 01282 555555

It’s 01254 (not 01282) 555555
Re: Taxi to Manchester
I’ve done the x43/train from piccadilly quite abit. Spend £30/£35 more and no ******* about. Only reason being when I’ve done it it’s been 5.30/6am. So straight forward. Would be ball ache at busier times.
Re: Taxi to Manchester
I have considered that option Ty but figured out that there would be quite a crowd trying to catch the X43 after the match. Assuming I get the 20:20 bus it gets to Manchester at 21:29. How long would it take to get to the airport then please?tybfc wrote:You could always jump on the X43 bus from Burnley bus station, get off outside Victoria train station in Manchester and get a quick tram to the airport on the metrolink from there. Re: Taxi to Manchester
20 quid though so probably not that much in it really if you can pre-book a taxi for a decent amount

What make sure though if I'm going on a fair trip or where I need a certain point of arrival is I pre book a time and get a quote.
I've tried ringing several up to compare prices but after 6 months of doing that they're never beaten , so dont bother now.
£45 back from Roundhay park in Leeds at midnight other week, with a drop off too. Can't grumble at that.
£35 return to clitheroe from town other week between 4 of us. Costs me £8 from town to my house 1 way on a Saturday night with most other firms, and it's only 2 mile!

why not do another thread jtv
"lift required to manchester airport area after Chelsea Match"
I would imagine you would get a lift there or very close.

I must have been extremely lucky then, as I've had no issues what so ever with them.Sheedyclaret wrote:Max cabs are cheap for a reason timekeeping wise they are useless

Max are cheap, sound drivers but not great at picking up on time. I would still book with them as your not in a mega rush.

This. I'd rather pay 30 sheets and less pratting about than 20 and use public transport.MACCA wrote:Suppose it depends if you want to mess around on busy public transport, which is unreliable, involves queuing and/or walking around in possible poor weather.

Re: Taxi to Manchester
Max are definitely the cheapest, it'll probably be around 30 quid. Although I've had the same issues as others with them being late and a couple of times the driver tried charging a higher price at the destination than was quoted on the phone, probably miscommunication but still not ideal.

Seconded, the x43 is tedious at peak times.Dyched wrote:I’ve done the x43/train from piccadilly quite abit. Spend £30/£35 more and no ******* about. Only reason being when I’ve done it it’s been 5.30/6am. So straight forward. Would be ball ache at busier times.

Re: Taxi to Manchester
Just be careful with max cabs. Mate of mine got a taxi to Deansgate for £25 a couple of years ago, but while they remain competitive their prices for certain drivers are almost double what they were even a couple of months ago. So worth ringing around before committing.MACCA wrote:Max Cabs 01282 555555

That's really kind of you Enduro. As long as it doesn't take you out of your way. I will ask Tony Scholes to pass you my email address if you don't mind.enduroclaret wrote:I'll be at the game v Chelsea.

Re: Taxi to Manchester
Thanks to all who contributed with suggestions, and especially many thanks to enduroclaret for his offer. As I told Kgun on the Heading to Turf Moor from USA thread, the Burnley family is fantastic - offering a lift to a virtual stranger is a top top gesture. I look forward to adding enduroclaret to the long list of friends I made in my time supporting the Clarets.

That's the one thing we learn as Clarets - we are never strangers and there is always a fellow Claret waiting to offer his help.jtv wrote:offering a lift to a virtual stranger is a top top gesture
