Central Serous Retinopathy
Central Serous Retinopathy
I was diagnosed with this yesterday - basically a fluid build up being the retina causes partial sight loss in one eye. They don't really know what causes it but it tends to affect males between the ages of 30-50. Just wondering if anyone on here has ever been affected and if your sight returned to normal? It can take months apparently, and that's if it does return

Nothing but best wishes for a speedy recovery, Fretters.
No advice; it’s new to me so I had to wiki it.

Re: Central Serous Retinopathy
I went to the opticians for a routine checkup for new glasses and was informed that I had
a defect in one eye and they thought it was Macular Degeneration which can prove to be serious.
They gave me an Amsler Chart, to stare at with the affected eye, which is basically some graph
paper with a dot in the centre. What I saw was amazing in that none of the lines were straight and
were all wavy !!!!!
They made an appointment for me to see Mrs S Abugreen in the Macular clinic at Blackburn RI and
the service I have received there is amazing. Fortunately I don't have Macular Degeneration but do
have Central Serous Chorio-Retinopathy which is essentially fluid behind the retina. (see link)
https://www.moorfields.nhs.uk/sites/def ... SCR%29.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
One of the remedies is an injection(s) in the eye through the eyeball which thankfully I have avoided so far !!!!
I was given an appointment for Fluorescein Angiography, which is essentially the injection of a dye into your blood
stream via your arm and this highlights the passage/leakage of blood in your eye. The best bit about this is extremely
high flourescent urine for the first two or three visits to the toilet. I frightened a guy to death in the next stall
in the hospital toilets when that lot came out. He couldn't wait to get out
I have had the condition for nearly a year now and it has thankfully stabilised and slightly improved on my last visit
3 weeks ago. Appointments are approx 3 months apart and I'm due again in the middle of December and consist of pretty
strong drops in your eye (they don't half have a kick) which enlarge your pupils to the size of saucers and then they "take
photographs" of the back of your eye. The drops make you feel like you're under water and about 3 inches from the sun !!!
I have to say that I don't have any problems with it in my day to day life.
There is no way that you can drive for about 3 to 4 hours so you need someone to transport you there.
I wish you luck with your diagnosis.

Until I can get some glasses (my good eye was actually my weaker one before this!) I haven't been on the internet much, but I've just gone and found your thread. All the very best to you too.chorleyhere wrote:All the best Fretters , it's great that this forum has so many people to offer support and advice, as you can see from the help I got re: Prostate Cancer.

Re: Central Serous Retinopathy
I started to notice a kink in vertical lines in the summer of 2017 & this was diagnosed. This was a great relief as I had feared it was macular degeneration (I’ve had Diabetes type 2 for four years). There doesn’t appear to be a particular reason for the onset, other than it affects mainly males above 30 & stress. I had been made redundant at the start of the year & started a new job in the February, so guess it was stress?
It was monitored at three monthly intervals &, I’m pleased to report, had completely cleared up by March 2018. From what I gather, the prognosis is generally good & the best advice I can give is to try not to worry about it.

Re: Central Serous Retinopathy
Not exactly the same but I've had my retina detach 5 times so I'm familiar with multiple operations, the Fluo injections, dilation drops, multiple other steroid drops, etc
I Know it seems a bit scary but just stay calm and push through with it (especially stay very still with the injections )
Eye condition knowledge advances every day. 10 years ago I would have automatically been blind in one eye. Currently I'm around a 20/50 vision. Pretty decent for 56 year old.
Just stay with it , stay calm and trust your specialists
