Glad to see they showed Tottingham they can play.
Puts us in a good light.
Very much enjoyed Athens last year.
Look forward to next!

Looks like they've progressed and got better since we played them in summer 2018 - wonder how they did it?

Well, they started off by being an under-achieving team that ought to be doing far better for the money they were spending.Devils_Advocate wrote:Looks like they've progressed and got better since we played them in summer 2018 - wonder how they did it?

No idea. But it was more than every other Greek club, and they weren't top of the Greek league.Devils_Advocate wrote:How much were they spending?

Re: Olympiakos
I see that Podence scored a wonder goal tonight. That was him who got the away goal at the Turf and who did an outrageous dive in Athens right in front of the Burnley fans that was the starting gun for all the half time shenanigans.

Olympiakos awarded a second half penalty. Not difficult to predict this at half-time....

Re: Olympiakos
Podence is the sort of player we need to be looking at.
Forget the antics re diving he has an eye for goal and playing in the Greek league, well within our much maligned transfer budget.

So you think we should try to sign a player who plays for the biggest club in Greece and who is guaranteed European football every season? Really??Woodleyclaret wrote:Podence is the sort of player we need to be looking at.

On that basis, no-one would ever leave Celtic. 'Money talks...dirty cash I want you, dirty cash I need you woh-oh'.Paulclaret wrote:So you think we should try to sign a player who plays for the biggest club in Greece and who is guaranteed European football every season? Really??

Re: Olympiakos
I wanted Spurs to stuff them 6-0, with all six goals being well dodgy.

I said the same thing last season after watching him last season - greek league or premier league - no contest
Re: Olympiakos
I remember KRBFC telling me Podence was s**t when he was a free agent Summer 2018 after he terminated his contract in the aftermath of the training ground attack at Sporting. I said he'd be at a big club in the top 5 leagues in Europe in 2 seasons time.
Last night he was the best player on the pitch and it'll have been noticed.
Consitent laughing stock is KRBFC.

Re: Olympiakos
Strangely there have only been 6 different champions of the Greek league in it's 92 year history and it wasn't held for 9 years for various reasons (the second world war being 5 of them) so there have been 83 champions, 44 of which were Olympiakos. Panathanaikos and AEK won another 32 between them meaning there have only been 7 times that one of those 3 didn't win it. Not exactly over competitive really. Off the top of my head I can only think of Scotland (Celtic/Rangers) and Uruguay (Penarol/Nacional) with less competition and even in Scotland there have been 17 non-Old Firm wins although it is a longer history (123 years).
I suppose it kinda makes the PL/First Division look very open in comparison.

Re: Olympiakos
just of interest, what's the Spanish League like? Real, Barca in the last 20 years I imagine have won 95% but before that?
Re: Olympiakos
Not quite, cricketfieldclarets, CF Os Belenenses won it in 1946 as well as Boavista in 2001.
In Spain, Atletico Madrid, Bilbao, Valencia, Real Sociedad, Deportivo, Sevilla and Betis have all had league triumphs.

He only has 10 months to get his move to a big club in one of the Top 5 leagues then.Mattster wrote:I remember KRBFC telling me Podence was s**t when he was a free agent Summer 2018 after he terminated his contract in the aftermath of the training ground attack at Sporting. Re: Olympiakos
Here's an odd one - there have been 16 different champions in Argentina in the last 29 years. To be fair that is slightly skewed by the fact that for over 20 years they had an Opening and Closing championship, meaning that the team top at the halfway stage were the opening champions and the team finishing top at the end were the closing champions, meaning two champions every season. It was fairer than it looks though because at the halfway stage all teams started on zero points again so it was still a 'championship'. They now have a normal 24 team league (up till two seasons ago it was a 30 team league playing each other once). All very odd but although they have a 'big 5' (Racing, Boca, Independiente, San Lorenzo and River Plate) these are by no means guaranteed to finish anywhere near the top, indeed a few short years ago River were relegated and last season San Lorenzo finish second bottom (they didn't get relegated as they have a relegation table based on average points over 3 seasons, which saved them).
All very unpredictable and very competitive.
