Burnley 4 Norwich 4
Possibly the last home match against them in the top flight.
I recall 4.4 and Uwe Noble got a hat trick.
But I can't remember how the scoring went.
Can someone help me please?

Noble got all 4 including 2 pens may be wrong but I'm sure we were 3_1 up then 4_2.the previous home game we beat Middlesbrough 4_1 whith a Pete Noble hattrick

Re: Burnley 4 Norwich 4
The match was played at TM on Saturday 13 Sep 1975, and the scoring went: 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, 3-1 in the first half and 3-2, 3-3, 4-3 and 4-4 in the second. Noble's first goal came in the first minute and Norwich's fourth in the last minute.
Two of Uwe's efforts were indeed penalties: they were our second and third goals, scored in the 26th and 43rd minutes.
It's easy when you have a Clarets Chronicles!

Might you be confusing 'chronicles' with 'barnacles', Blue?

Muchas gracias.
Was Norwich's last goal a penalty?
I wish I had a memory.
Still at least I do have some cream for my chronicles.

De nada.
The Barnacles - er, Chronicles - does not say whether that final goal was a penalty.
It was likewise painful in any event, however.

2-0 & 3-1 up then 3-3. Our 4th in 87th minute and theirs in 90th.2 Bee Holed wrote:Possibly the last home match against them in the top flight.

Second & third Burnley goals were penalties.
And it was the last top flight home game against them.

I was at this game. Didn't we draw 3-3 (with Orient maybe) the week before , or maybe the week after, too ? Could be delusional old age but this "fact" seems to be lodged in my 58 year old brain.

I remember Peter Noble being distraught at the final whistle. He really laid into his teammates

We drew 3-3 against Orient in the second division in 1976/77, the season after, and drew the next home game 4-4 against Charlton.Stalbansclaret wrote:I was at this game. Re: Burnley 4 Norwich 4
Uwe Noble what a player
I was there when he hit the winner v Burnley for Swindon at the Hawthores in the League cup semi final
I recall his debut was at Sheff Utd when Mick Doc came off injured in our first game back to Div1?

Re: Burnley 4 Norwich 4
Thank you CT ! The games had obviously become jumbled in my mind. I seem to remember one of Peter Noble's goals against Norwich was an absolute screamer, scored at the Beehole End..but maybe I'm wrong there as well.ClaretTony wrote:We drew 3-3 against Orient in the second division in 1976/77, the season after, and drew the next home game 4-4 against Charlton.

Re: Burnley 4 Norwich 4
Didn't Noble retake one of those penalties after it was saved?

Re: Burnley 4 Norwich 4
I was looking through some of my old football annuals and found this one with Uwe against Norwich on the front cover. The book is a 1977 edition but it doesn't actually state when the picture was taken. Can anyone confirm?

30th August 1976. Norwich City centre forward Ted MacDougall chased down Burnley duo Jim Thomson and Peter Noble in the League Cup 2nd Round, at Turf Moor.

Don't think it was that match Stan Tastic but he did once have a pen saved and was able to retake it.Stan Tastic wrote:Didn't Noble retake one of those penalties after it was saved?

Remember the League Cup game. Cochrane tore them to shreds.Working_Class_Zero wrote:30th August 1976. Norwich City centre forward Ted MacDougall chased down Burnley duo Jim Thomson and Peter Noble in the League Cup 2nd Round, at Turf Moor.

I think the re-taken penalty was against Middlesbrough when Jim Platt saved Noble's penalty at the cricket field end only for it to be re-taken and scored.ClaretTony wrote:Don't think it was that match Stan Tastic but he did once have a pen saved and was able to retake it.

Re: Burnley 4 Norwich 4
My guess would be that the above pic is from the 4-4 game which was on a sunny Saturday afternoon early in the 1975-76 season. We first wore those shirts with the V and we were relegated at the end of that season.Working_Class_Zero wrote:30th August 1976. Unless I am mistaken most league cup games would be an evening game and even an "August 30th" evening would have longer shadows than on this pic. I maybe wrong - just my first reaction. Great pic by the way.

Yes it will be the 4-4.
I pasted the info that came with the pic from here:

Clearly wrong.

Re: Burnley 4 Norwich 4
Didn't Norwich have a CF called Busby?
It's clear from this thread several of us are all becoming forgetful.
Uwe 4 goals eh? That's probably why I can at least recall the score.
I probably never thought I'd see another Burnley player get 4 goals in a game,
then along came Barnes!

Re: Burnley 4 Norwich 4
Remember that game MOTD finished showing Peter Noble and the presenter probably Jimmy Hill saying he scored a hat trick and still didn't win.

Cheers. Love the old football albums. Do kids still get that kind of thing. Peter Noble signed the inside cover for me. I was well chuffed!beeholeclaret wrote:My guess would be that the above pic is from the 4-4 game which was on a sunny Saturday afternoon early in the 1975-76 season.
