It's WAR at Turf Moor!
It's WAR at Turf Moor!
We should have had a penalty, yesterday and yet there was no VAR intervention for what, on screen, was clear and obvious
I conclude, therefore, that instead of VAR, we have WAR.
What Action Replay?

Clear penalty, also highlighted on Match of the day. Did not need VAR, the ref was close enough and had a clear view.

We should have 3 reviews per game per team with it on the big screen like in cricket and we should hear and see what is going on in the control room, at the moment it’s completely useless and resulting in these crap refs getting even more obvious decisions wrong.
This elbow offside by 3 inches needs to be stopped too, should be an obvious foot width past the last defender to be called offside, amazing how badly it’s been implemented so far.

Just watching the Rugby, the ref is miked up and explaining what he saw to another official, maybe this would help football in televised games instead of everyone not having a scooby what's going on

Don’t see the problem with offside. If someone is deemed 3 inches offside by the technology we have available then that’s what we need to be working to. Your solution for an obvious foot width past the last defender will also carry with it a margin of uncertainty, you’re just moving the offside line back a few inches.Giftonsnoidea wrote:We should have 3 reviews per game per team with it on the big screen like in cricket and we should hear and see what is going on in the control room, at the moment it’s completely useless and resulting in these crap refs getting even more obvious decisions wrong.

People just need to accept that there are going to be very close calls which would previously be deemed as level now given as offside. It’s black and white.
I agree that it’s being made a pigs ear of in penalty calls though.

Exactly what we were discussing in the Boars Head when we got back yesterday evening.... its not the Offsides that are the problem with VAR. But the penalty decisions (sorry not penalty decisions).... as seen in quite a few games.Rileybobs wrote:Don’t see the problem with offside. As others have said perhaps we need independant assessors in the VAR room/cabin/shed not ex Refs who at the moment seem to protect their own....
Its been pointed out about the TOM decions in the Rugby and how good they are.... perhaps as this new Tech in football develops we may get better at it.
Heres hoping ....

Re: It's WAR at Turf Moor!
In the cases of offside and handballs I believe that you make the law and it applies equally to everyone. That is fair to everyone so the moaning is for when it works against one of the big/media favourite teams. Pochettino had it right yesterday when he said he couldn't complain because he had been one of the voices demanding VAR and if it had determined against his team in that game it would also determine to his team's advantage at other times.
However I do believe that whether VAR should be viewed to decide if something should have been a penalty or not needs sorting out. Incredibly Ash didn't even get a free kick for the 'penalty' incident yesterday so the referee hadn't even seen it as a foul. VAR isn't set up to second guess every referee decision so it could not have been looked at by the VAR ref.

The idea of having kevin friend in the var control room is hilarious, has he ever got any dubious decisions right in his life.
