You could land a Boeing 747 on that forehead. Looks like he's going bald.

Looked ok did Chelsea, those players looked like they wanted it and that's not happened much in recent history.

Nothing against Lampard.

I know he'd have been unlikely to have been invited to be Chelsea manager for a long time, if ever, but he was a fool to leave Derby.
Sure, they are abysmal but, as he showed last year, his contacts in the game are as good as anybody's and he could have brought in a few more loans to get Derby near the play-offs. The current state of Chelsea is, relatively speaking, pretty awful too. He will "fail" this season and be gone once the rot sets in even more strongly.

He would have been foolish to turn down the opportunity to manage Chelsea which is why he was never going to do so.

Chelsea will easily be top 6. Very poor year, look at Arsenal and Man U.

"Bloody foreign managers, why do British managers never get a chance? Is it because they don't have a sexy name?"

Frank Lampard, a young British manager, appointed at Chelsea

Chelsea could have got something.
No Hazard and yet still creating.

Not quite as good as Burnley but getting there.

I watched the Chelsea v Liverpool game on TV. I'm not in the least a Chelsea fan but thought they had a strong 2nd half and deserved a point.
Kante seemed back to his best and Mount & Abraham are progressing well so far under Lampard.

I think Chelsea will be pushing for one of the 2 or 3 spots behind Liverpool/Man City at the end of the season. Finishing 3rd or 4th with the transfer restrictions they have + losing Hazard will be a decent achievement for a young manager I think.

I ccouldn't care less whether he's English or whatever.
I don't think he has the nous to mould a team to a high Premiership standard.
We'll see.

For the life of me I can't see why Frank Lampard would offend anyone. He's articulate, humble, doesn't bullsh*t and is an absolute model professional.

He was lucky to get the Chelsea job given his experience, but he showed promise at Derby and it probably helped that he's arguably one of the best servants their club has ever had.

Chelsea were always going to struggle to compete this year, but I'd say they are closer than Man United to the right path and given time (which he may not get) he might prove a few people wrong.

He's not offending me in the slightest. He managed a team that stopped Leeds going up.

I'd say it's less Lampard being offensive but more the way the media are happy to blow smoke up his backside.

Sarri got pelters last year for finishing third and winning the Europa League. Lampard on the other hand is doing great this season according to large sections of the press. Not Lampard's fault but it's a bit stupid.

Isn't there a transfer ban on Chelsea. That would have made the job less attractive for big name foreign managers. It's also forced Lampard's hand a bit with having to play many of their home grown players, something where there was a bit of criticism of Chelsea last season.

It looks to me like they are in for an interesting, at times exciting, but ultimately unpredictable season.

Good manager based on what?

Getting Derby to finish in exactly the same position as the previous manager did, but with the help of better players?

Hardly the sign of a good manager.

Doesn’t really matter what a previous manager did. Frank’s job was to get them up or at least get into the play-offs. He achieved the secondary target which many thought he wouldn’t be able to do. He is currently doing better than his enthusiastic critics have predicted. It will be difficult to install consistency perhaps amongst his younger, less experienced players but he’s certainly made a bright start. They were very good against Liverpool and perhaps unlucky not to get at least a point. Lost to two set pieces, suffered at the hands of VAR, scored a fantastic Kante goal and played some very good stuff at speed. A side with lots of, as yet, untapped potential mixed in with good seasoned pros.

Well considering most on here predicted he would be sacked in a month.
did a good job with a young Derby squad playing good football and almost got them up.

Now doing a good job with a very young and inexperienced Chelsea team.

I wish him every success. A nice guy, fantastic midfielder and will know the backrooms of football clubs better than most foreign managers could, from growing up surrounded by top managers and coaches.... bet he knows more than he’s given credit for. His dad was some player and I bet he's a proud proud fella.

Always really liked the guy. He's always seemed to be a highly articulate sort - which is more than the rest of that "Golden Generation" could say.

He wasn't going to turn down the Chelsea job - and even if they struggle this year, he's more likely than most to get a stay of execution from Abramovic given his folk hero status and the transfer ban.

Pulisic and Abraham look VERY good.

There’s a difference between that and diving.

He got assaulted in the box the other week and we still don’t get a pen and yet every man and his dog are going down easily and getting pens given.....

Barnes does get fouled a lot but often he's a bit dramatic with the way he throws himself before he falls which can sometimes go against him. Oliver's a top referee and will know the antics if certain players.
