West Midlands Police to settle out of court with Bristol City fans
Well done to these Bristol City fans and their Supporters Club for standing up against the West Midlands Police and finally, after four years, getting a result.

WMP have learned too from this and changed their approach now to football policing and were the first police force in the country to have a Football Policing Independent Advisory Group comprised of supporter representatives from clubs across their region.

Great result, only achieved thru their absolute refusal to let it go.
Well done to all those concerned.
Police forces throughout the country have failed to appreciate the steady decline of hooliganism, and still police match days quite heavy handedly in a lot of cases.

Brilliant that they stuck to their guns, got support and pushed hard, otherwise they would have lost this. The other good news is WMP have changed now and other forces are following suit although still far from how it should be.bobinho wrote:Great result, only achieved thru their absolute refusal to let it go.

West mids police were always heavy handed. Similarish thing happened years ago when we went to wigans old ground. We got train to arrive in Wigan before 11. Police escorted us out of town centre saying they would leave us near the ground. They didnt, they hearded a few hundred clarets into the ground 4 hours before kick off. Me and my mate escaped to the warmth of a pub.

I had trouble with the West Midlands police around 10 years ago, there was a few of us and they completely fabricated a story and cautioned us which we just accepted as young naive lads because we wanted to get home and didn’t think we’d win. It was only when I got kicked out of the England Away supporters club that I wished I’d not accepted the charge.

What's the context?
Re: West Midlands Police to settle out of court with Bristol City fans
It's great ( sometimes ) that theres so many people wanting to film every little thing, as it often means the police can no longer get away with half of what they used too in situations like this.
Well done the officer for having a backbone to stand up for those fans against his colleagues.
Been in a similar situation, and fortunately a friend had the quick thinking and guts to record it, even after threats off an officer to stop.
Safe to say we didnt hear another peep , although we should have taken it further.
At the time you often just think alls well that ends well.

The Wigan Police weren’t the brightest we hid in the station toilets and had the afternoon in Wigan’s finest Real Ale emporiumsclaretnproud wrote:West mids police were always heavy handed. Great result and worth highlighting that it was the European Convention of Human Rights that allowed them to fight the actions of the WMP

And just to be clear the European Convention of Human Rights is implemented by the European Court of Human Rights which is given it's jurisdiction by the Council of Europe. The Council of Europe has 47 members states and was first seriously muted in 1943 by Churchill and founded in 1949.
