Re: Dendrologists
I love a nice tree (and unlike the fairer sex, they never talk back!!) I bought and planted 10 saplings, all different species, on a large open field at my work place before I retired 2 years ago and often wonder how they're getting on.

Do you always quit so easily???
What we didn't know is that Chobulous lives in the Amazon rain forest so it won't be in Bosscat's summary of British trees!!

Re: Dendrologists
Surely the leaf in question was on that comprehensive illustration above. If not it may be rather exotic!!
And re spiders and the time of year. Oh,yeah. I am aware and I've boarded all the windows and doors, but still can't sleep, just in case.

The issue with the image upload on here is that it's capped at 2MB or something and most mobiles take pictures that are larger than this. I always have to shrink pictures from my phone to upload them to this site.

Re: Dendrologists
Whatever the species of tree is, it is clearly a deciduous one and it sheds its leaves early.

Re: Dendrologists
There’s an App called Leafsnap where you can take a picture of a leaf and it is supposed to identify the tree.
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work that well. Possibly my fault because I tried it with a picture of a Bakewell tart and it couldn’t recognise it....

Re: Dendrologists
Of course the Bakewell tart is a leafless tree so it won't appear on that app.
Try Plantsnap, or better still, Tartsnap.

Re: Dendrologists
I used to use one called Garden Answers which in it's earlier days was really helpful! But it seems that the more data it absorbs the less accurate it becomes...it could be this? Of it could be this? Or this has green leaves is it this? A good example that more info in decision making is not necessarily helpful.Hibsclaret wrote:There’s an App called Leafsnap where you can take a picture of a leaf and it is supposed to identify the tree.

Re: Dendrologists
A friend had Plantsnap and I was very impressed with it.
It mostly seemed to work on flowers but it could use leaves. For example Aucuba Japonica (Spotted Laurel) was easily identified. It means I can no longer get away by impressing people calling something Archimego heidiensis etc..
