The Derby Way....

Two Derby players drink driving and crashing their cars.....I have seen an image of one of the cars and it's completely smashed in. Dreadfully irresponsible and stupidity of the highest order. They could quite easily have killed somebody.

Derby County stars Tom Lawrence and Mason Bennett were arrested after the crash in the city's Allestree area on Tuesday night.

Police said a Range Rover Sport and a Mercedes GLC had collided.

Mr Bennett, 23, of Whaley Thorns near Mansfield, and Mr Lawrence, of Duffield, are due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court on 15 October.

Derbyshire Constabulary said neither man had been seriously injured but 25-year-old Wales international Mr Lawrence had been taken to hospital as a precaution.

Derby County said it is aware of the incident but will not be commenting because of legal proceedings.

Yes, I read that Keogh got in the car as a passenger in the full knowledge that the driver was drunk. I mean, he looks thick......but this just clarifies it.

The Derby manager says he may have to bring in some new faces because of this. Keogh has said he would love one of them.

ACL injury and a broken wrist, the club even laid on taxis to take the players home and they still chose to drive.

Statement just issued by the club

As a club, we cannot, and do not, condone the actions of a small group of players on Tuesday evening.

The players were out as part of a scheduled team-building dinner with staff and while the majority of them acted responsibly and left at around 8pm and were not involved, a small group, including the team captain Richard Keogh, continued drinking into the night. They should have known when to stop and also ignored the opportunity to be driven home using cars laid on by the club, and chose to stay out.

As a result of an alcohol-related incident, Richard Keogh has sustained a serious knee injury that will prevent him from playing until the end of the season.

The players involved in the incident on Tuesday evening will be subject to a rigorous internal investigation under the club’s code of conduct and disciplinary procedures, but over and above any punishment they receive we will be expecting them to become involved with the excellent work the Community Trust does helping the communities we serve.

We have been very clear about our attitude towards alcohol and the players know that at certain and specific times of the season they are permitted a drink together as a group in a controlled environment.

Those involved in Tuesday’s incident know they will pay a heavy price for their actions, but also that we will support them with their rehabilitation back into the squad and team.

We fully support the work of our partners at Drinkaware and the unsanctioned actions of this small group of players is totally at odds the stance that both Drinkaware and Derby County Football Club take regards alcohol. We will be using this situation to redouble our efforts in highlighting the dangers posed by alcohol.

We would also like to thank the emergency services for their swift help.

Could they sack Keogh for this? I know its over the top but as a club that is looking to cut costs this would be a greta opportunity for them to free up a wage that isnt probably going to play for 9 months

Rumours on a lot of Derby sites is that this is just the tip of the iceberg? A lot more yet to come out regards this.

By the sounds of it they were all in Tom Lawrences Range Rover. Which begs the question why was Mason Bennett (?) arrested as well. Also there were other passengers in the vehicle whose names havent been released and their were Class A's found

Looking up on Keogh on Google I came across this, is there any truth or just wikipedia lies?

After leaving Stoke City, Keogh joined up with Burnley for pre-season training.[13] He was known to Burnley manager Steve Cotterill and his assistant Dave Kevan from their time at Stoke and they were keen to sign him. After impressing in pre-season, Keogh was offered a two-year contract and was poised to sign, but he had a change of heart and turned the offer down.[14][15][16] Instead, just days later, Keogh signed a two-year contract with League One club Bristol City.

Would have been the summer of 2005.

Two pieces written by myself at the time and then a pic of him at Gawthorpe. We turned him down though, not him turning us down.

14th July 2005

Keogh was released by Stoke at the end of last season but both Steve Cotterill and Dave Kevan remembered him and invited him to join the Clarets for the pre-season. The 6ft 3ins central defender has made the most of it and has become the sixth summer signing and the fifth former Stoke player at Turf Moor.

Harlow born Keogh has, as we reported, been capped nine times by the Republic of Ireland at Under-19 level and was one of four players released by Stoke at the end of last season.

He will travel with the squad to Cheltenham where, along with the other five signings, he is expected to make his Burnley debut.

16th July 2005

Burnley Football Club explained: "Richard Keogh will no longer be signing for Burnley Football Club as originally reported. The club understood that the 18 year old wished to join, but after further discussions with his agent an agreement could not be made and the club has decided not to pursue its interest."

The BBC write up had them in two cars Lawrence driving one and Bennett the other.
Were they racing?

A fair possibility that they were racing. Guess we'll have to see what the Police and CPS have to say about it.

Rumour doing the rounds on the building site just outside Derby is that one of those involved was so ****** he was being a complete cock, harrassing the female paramedic attempting to treat him, asking her out, making lewd comments and so on.
All this while Derby are in partnership with a responsible drinking organisation. Class.
As club captain and a senior pro, you have to wonder what future "Mad-Eye" Moody has at Derby.

Yeah the Derby fans seem to be hoping he is sacked as he is a regular at a local bar which is constantly having lock ins and he is supposed to be right up his own bottom.

As I said earlier there is a lot more yet to come out regards this

Yeah they have been around all day, plus Keogh abusing the female paramedic and refusing to give the police his real name. Also prostitutes in the cars too. If any is true I doubt we will ever know unless The Sun has video evidence and publishes it as it is in the "public interests"

There's a snapchat video, published by the Mirror, taken at the do, allegedly, with one of the alleged drunk drivers puking his ring up, much to the amusement of his buddies.
This is going from bad to worse. If that vid is genuine and the level of alcohol in his blood was as high as it suggests it may have been, he'll be lucky to avoid jail.

They'll escape prison no doubt due to their profession and it'll be a prison sentence suspended for 12 months. I hope they do go down for it, as some people look up to them, but unfortunately can't see it.

The sentence will be determined by the site of the court. Derby and they could walk, sic, under the Steven Gerrard/Ken Dodd brand of justice. Nottingham and they could get life.
There are still too many unknowns to call this yet:
If they were paralytic I hope they get gaol, you or I would.
If they were racing it should be taken into account.
Prostitutes in the car is irrelevant. These are motoring offences, unless they were getting a bj at the time.

According to one Blackburn player they left Keogh onconcious in the back of the car.
When they got home and realised, they came back to the scene where police and ambulance were already on the scene and got arrested.

Big trouble in little Derby.
