1-3 down at home, but they have brought on Sam Vokes.

If he goes, there will be trouble.
If he stays, there will be double.

They signed 10 players in the window as well.

We didn't - we won 1, drew 1 and lost 6.Quicknick wrote:Burnley lost 4 and drew 4 of the first 8 games in Division 3 in 1981-82 and ended the season as champions.
As for Stoke, it's 3 wins in 29 now for Nathan Jones and he won the first against Leeds. Since they've beaten Forest at home and Blackburn at Ewood.

Re: Stoke
I heard Pulis talking the other week about how the Stoke chairman never meddles with the stuff that’s within the role of the manager. He gave the example of not undermining Mark Hughes to ask Pulis about Berahino before his transfer from West Brom to Stoke. Pulis said he couldn’t believe that his ex chairman didn’t ring him for info before the transfer but said he never undermines his current manager.
Based on this and the resounding success of Berahino the manager may get until Christmas....

Re: Stoke
It's what you would call a good chairman. Barry Kilby once told me that he'd never interfered with the manager on decisions throughout his time as chairman and that's how it should be.Hibsclaret wrote:I heard Pulis talking the other week about how the Stoke chairman never meddles with the stuff that’s within the role of the manager. Definitely is a good chairman for sure. I’m not sure they want to be letting this bloke have much longer mind....it may be too late for them at this rate

Re: Stoke
That's true but they dumped De Boer sharpish, whether it's Nathan Jones's style of play,or the players downing tools something has to change, and they can't remodel their squad until January,so the only viable option to shake the dressing room up is sacking the gaffer.conyoviejo wrote:Crystal Palace lost their first 8 a couple of years ago and did OK..
Another Butland howler tonight, his career is rapidly going downhill.

I'm surprised Jones is still there - I noticed my namesake wasn't looking to happy at the final whistle.Hibsclaret wrote:Definitely is a good chairman for sure. I’m not sure they want to be letting this bloke have much longer mind....it may be too late for them at this rate

Of course. I posted from memory, so should have checked. Not far wrong, though, and I made a salient point. Stoke are certainly not finished.ClaretTony wrote:We didn't - we won 1, drew 1 and lost 6.

5 points from safety with 37 games to play. Not sure it’s quite over yet.

Just had a nosey at the Stoke forum to see what they had to say about Vokes.
“If you cut him, he’d bleed gravy” was probably one of the nicer comments!

They had three consecutive 9th placed finishes in the Premier League after Pulis left, higher than he’d ever achieved.Steve1956 wrote:A solid Premier league team under Pulis, since he left they have been gash,be careful what you you wish for fellow Clarets.

Re: Stoke
I thought they'd played well, and had some good looking players, knocked it around fine......
Until Butland.
It must be a real concern for the defence knowing he is behind them. I feel for Jones, I dont agree with his persistence in the diamond formation, but he seems a good bloke. The team showed tonight that they just need a bit of luck with a result and their fortunes could turn round. Sadly its Huddersfield next, and at this stage of the season it could be do or die.

They aren't but it did take the removal of Bob Lord to turn things round that seasonQuicknick wrote:Of course. I posted from memory, so should have checked. Not far wrong, though, and I made a salient point. Stoke are certainly not finished.

Wonder what has gone wrong for them? On the face of it Jones seemed a good appointment; good, young up and coming manager.
