Commentator has twice said that we rescued the game at Wolves with a 97th minute penalty
Are his notes upside down?

Lads did well to come back but there needs to be some work on that defence. Shocking last 30 minutes of the first half, fortunately we got through it without shipping bucket loads

When they got their second I loved the way we didn’t give in and go up their end and get an equaliser

Well that was stressful, I thought they were going to nick it at the end (as per usual) but we held out.

Lovely point in a tasty game. Not a great performance but our determination to get something shone through. Still unbeaten against the non top 6.

Good point that
We are very hard to beat, especially for teams who think they are better than they are and will crack quickly because of that.

We only lost five times away from home two seasons ago
Would be good to get close to that.

Re: Heaton Villains versus MIGHTY CLARETS
A scrappy ding dong affair with a lot of mistakes and very few moments of pure quality from either side.
We played beneath ourselves, but the " result could go either way " made it an interesting watch.
One point rescued and two points lost.
Pieters is proving to be a " roll of the dice " player. He put in a couple of good crosses today, but I think he just lumps it into the box and the end result is more down to chance than design. His defending is negligent at times and Villa got some valuable play down his side of the pitch. A better team would have used that space to carve us up. He is okay as a fairly cheap short term backup, but we needed better than a stop gap with no re-sale value and relatively high wages ( I suspect ).
From a longer term business perspective Pieters isn't a great signing. We shot ourselves in the foot chasing after players that were never going to come here and a " treading water " replacement for Ward was probably the best we could do with what was left on the table. He is okay as a functional backup, but I would like to see Taylor return to the squad as soon as possible.
Nice to see Jay score and he took his goal well. It wasn't the easiest of tap in finishes, but his header was first rate. I think he is still off the the pace though and in the top tier players have to create scoring chances for themselves and others. It isn't like the Championship were a player can inflate their goal scoring record with penalties and regular " served on a plate " tap ins. The reason Wood and Barnes are so valuable to us is that they work for their goals.
Jay seems to have slotted in as our number 3, which is a little undeserved in my opinion. It could be argued that we tend to favour our new signings at times ( go out there and make our transfer business look better than it was ) like we did with Crouch. Personally, given the limited playing time they have both had, I think Vydra has looked the better of the two. Making Vydra number 3 or giving him an equal chance of playing could change his mind about leaving ( if he wants to ) and a few shop window appearances would get us a better price if he does.
Seeing Jay come on for Cork, requiring us to try out a new formation, was interesting to see. However, it just highlights our failure to bring in a quality midfielder as a permanent signing. After his recent fracas I don't want to see us sign up Drinkwater in the same type of " golden handshake " deal we used to pick up Hart. I don't think it is unreasonable for a player to have a couple of drinks when they are out, but being to ****** to remember the events of a night when he was sheduled to be available for the U23 squad shows poor character. Likewise for trying to do a runner instead of facing the music.
My biggest midfield concern is that Hendrick is yet to sign a new contract with us. If he hasn't done so by the next window we coud be forced into selling him to avoid losing him on a free. That would be a huge loss and it would leave us needing to sign two midfielders in the next window - when we couldn't sign one long term addition in the last.
On the league front we are doing reasonably well, but we don't seem to have made any real strides forward in terms of enhancing our survival prospects with a better overall team. Our transfer business simply plugged the gaps with a couple of like for like replacements in terms of overall quality.
On the business front our recent transfer business was very poor and that is probably going to hurt us two or three years down the line. We can't keep adding players with little to no future resale value who will all need replacing at the same time. Neither can we afford to waste valuable time and resources chasing after " high visibility " young players who are never going to come here or be made available at a price we can afford.
One thing I found particularly interesting in the aftermatch of the last transfer window was that Garlick and Dyche fielded all of the questions and commented on the outcome. We didn't hear a peep from our new Technical Director Rigg, who is a key part of our transfer business. Personally, on the back of the last two windows, I would be actively looking to replace him in the very near future.
I'm guessing he is clinging to the classic strategy favoured by waste of space middle managers the word over. Namely, give me time to hire talented people who can do my job for me and make me look a lot better than I actually am. If Rigg can start to prove his worth in the next window that would be welcome, but if he can't we should be handing him his cards shortly after it. The smart move would be to start casting an eye over suitable replacements, sooner rather than later.
We can't afford to carry passengers, especially not in a key role that could make or cost us millions. When you bring in someone new you expect to see an improvement ( especially when you back them with funding ) you don't expect to see performance register a further decline. Trotting out the " it is going to take time " line is just an insult. We wouldn't give a new player or manager 2 years before expecting them to put in a respectable contribution when called upon.
Unfortunately Sven Mislintat has had a hugely positive impact on Stuttgart in a very short space of time. A development that is even more remarkable given the state of meltdown they were in when he joined. Stuttgart are looking good for promotion and that probably means he won't be going anywhere in 2021. I suppose that is the key difference between employing someone with a reputation for doing a good job and someone that has a reputation for talking about doing a good job, despite repeatedly doing a poor one.
After watching our first run of matches I think we have enough to stay up this season. Today was something of a blip, but the lads have got what it takes to see us safely over the line. However, the long term future of the club and our ongoing financial prosperity are being ill served by our recruitment. The price of players is rising and that means the buying power of our dry powder store is steadily diminishing.
I wouldn't be surprised if the idea of " finding an investor " is being thrown around when the best answer is a recruitment department that can do their job, which should be to strengthen the team and earn the club money in the process. At the moment I don't think our recruitment is achieving either of those objectives and bringing in an investor would simply be a sticking plaster to cover up poor performance in that area.

Better than reasonably well for me. Some of the spells of play have been top quality. We need to make these patches last longer.
As always survival is the aim. We look more than capable of achieving that comfortably.
