New TV - what do you recommend?

Post by Alanstevensonsgloves » Sat Sep 28, 2019 1:26 pm

Afternoon All,

Tried searching for past threads on this subject but could not find one, so here we go....

Looking to spend £250-£350 on a TV. Size wise around 42"

Will be used for TV only, no gaming.

What do you recommend?

I've no idea, except, I'm sure for that money you will be able to get exactly the same as, or may be a lot better than, I spent nearer £1,000 on 9 or 10 years back.

I'd get a samsung 55.

Plenty on Argos, johnlewis, Curry's around 450

I saw on Twitter, Lidl are doing Sharp 50” 4K sets for £299.

No idea how good they are but amazing price. Who can remember 16” mono TVs back in the 60’s and then 21” colour in 1971?

Based on your requirements, I'd be considering the LG or the Samsung:

I recently got a 42" Samsung 7400 and am well impressed with everything. As the person higher up said -- get it from Richer Sounds and you get a six year guarantee at no extra cost. I think Toshiba is a Curry's brand nowadays and Argos have Sharp. Not sure if either are as good as they used to be.

LG or Samsung - older models will be better than budget brands.

Panasonic for me all the way. Not the cheapest but the best quality along with Sony.

False.

OLED TVs aren't LCD and don't have a backlight. Plasma displays (RIP) weren't LCD either.

I'm also looking for a new TV, £1500 budget but would rather spend £1200 ish.

Looking at 55 or 65 inch, Oled or Qled.

From what I can see on the tinternet, Oled are deemed slightly better.

Any opinions or recommendations would be appreciated :)

Most curved TVs still have a VESA mount for wall mounting

Very much depends on the model that you get as opposed to the brand. I’d generally opt for Sony or Panasonic but there are some bloody good LG and Samsung models out there.

SAMSUNG 42" or larger m8 bloody brilliant, and if you have a Samsung phone that you can pair up with Screen sharing ... then watching the Clarets Player videos full size on the Telly is absolutely Ace :D

Don’t buy a tv for the main reason being to pair your phone

You can cast to any tv .

Panasonic used to be ok, they’ve been surpassed nowadays . I think previous poster who says they have always been the best , is getting mixed up with pioneer kudos who were without doubt the best

You won’t go wrong with an LG

Was weighing up LG or Samsung, went for this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133025412377" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There was 10% off also yesterday on Ebay, so cost me £314 more or less

Right, over to Barry Chuckle' now.....
