Has a Twitter pray for him started yet? The effort of pretending to be unconscious after being kicked in the rib was amazing. Cheating git after his dive at Arsenal last week as well.

Mee tapped the ball against his face. Good reason to pretend to be unconscious.

He went down ridiculously easily and as for the very short rebounded ball off Mee into his face for the unconscious act was hilarious nonsense .Same drawer as his dive vs West Ham ,farcical .

So you think the ball hitting him the face knocked him out cold?? If that was the case, he would have to leave the field of play (with oxygen) and wouldn't be allowed to play next week. At the very least.

He was play acting. He was at it all game.

Im not sure if he was out cold but he looked in a bad way. What I do know is that it was nothing to do with a kick in the rib like the OP said.

You could see the players round him looked very concerned and the medical staff carefully took their time with him. This idea he faked it all is just ridiculous and typical of idiot posters who think whenever a player goes down from another team they are diving and cheating.

Of course when one of our players gets hurt and goes down suddenly its because the other teams are dirty thugs.

We kicked lumps out of Grealish and McGinn cos for a lot of the game our players struggled to get near them

He got a kick in the ribs/stomach and the ball hit him in the face. I don't think this would make his body go limp and his teammates need to put him in the recovery position....for him to ok a couple of minutes later.

I went on the game today with two Villa fans and they are already a bit embarrassed by his antics. They think he's a big lad but he goes down far too easily (which they find frustrating).

I thought you might appreciate hearing the Villa perspective

He didnt get a kick in the ribs. Mee's foot connected with the ball and kicked it flush into his face from inches away. If something smashes you unexpectedly in the face especially if it catches you flush on the chin your body can easily momentarily go into shock.

I presume they put him in the recovery position because he either appeared or was unconscious and thats exactly what you should do

He might well dive and go down easy but if them and you were on the match you wouldnt have seen what exactly happened and how he looked and how the players close to him reacted for this specific situation.

Anyhow my original comment was because the poster had a go at the lad for getting a kick in the rib which didnt happen. Not sure why me pointing out the OP getting something wrong is what gets jumped on rather than the poster actually getting the main part of his post wrong.

NB: Ive seen the replays but if I see replays later that show it was a kick to the ribs and not Mee kicking the ball in his face I'll hold my hands up but other than that Im not gonna argue about this all night especially as the majority (not you JDM as you seem a very sensible poster) on here cant manage an unbiased and objective discussion about an incident involving Burnley

Ball hits him under the chin at which point he hits the deck holding his face. He then takes 5-10 seconds to roll onto his back and bring his arms down by his side, then stopping moving. Due to this the referee then stops play. Once ‘treated’ he proceeds to sit up like the fecking undertaker and jog off the pitch before coming back on to finish the game.

The players reacted as if it was serious because, no doubt similar to yourself, they wouldn’t imagine that someone would stoop so low as to fake being unconscious.

Regardless, if you want to see a genuine injury of the type, watch what happened to Walcott in the evening kickoff. He was stretchered off, clearly without a scooby whether it was new year or New York.

He was moving fine for a good 5-10 seconds before he went down "unconscious". Not sure if that can happen but the Lazarean recovery and seeming absence of any ill-effects suggests not.

Smith confirms Wesley was not knocked unconscious. “He wasn't, because you have to go off if you are. The lads were worried at one stage. I thought it fired him up at one stage," he said. "He was a little bit sloppy in the first half but he became a better player.” #AVFC

There's a middle ground between being knocked unconscious and being fine and faking it all.

None of us know for sure but my view is he took a nasty surprise blow to the face with the ball and was a little shocked and shaken (its not uncommon for a small delayed reaction when taking a blow to the head). Now he might be a soft arse fanny with a low threshold to pain but again if he's genuinely hurt and dazed that doesn't mean he's faking it.

You guys can believe what you want as this is a messageboard for opinions but the only real fact I was objecting to was the OP basing his thought on him being kicked in the ribs when he wasn't

Personally I dont see any logic in him faking it cos its not like he was trying to win a foul or a penalty or get someone sent off. Its not like there was a break going on where stopping the play would advantage his team. It just seems illogical to me and seems much more plausible he's a bit soft and got shocked and dazed from the ball hitting him

So you’ll retract this then?

The logic is as clear as day btw, to ‘win’ a free kick and retain possession for his team.

What I don’t see is the logic from him to go down holding his face, then roll over and fully alter his body shape and direction so as to simulate being unconscious. Can you shed any light on what would lead him to this action?

I'll accept the ridiculous part was going OTT the other way in response and pull back on that but I stand by that there are posters who think all the other teams are diving cheats when theyre on the floor or thugs when its our players on the floor (Lincoln game prime example).

You only have to look at the comments every week on the refs performance to see some posters just cant view things objectively. I get why that is and some football fans enjoy it being like that but I will always try and call it as I see it from a neutral perspective

Villa players were going down all the time to break play up.
I have seen us do the same on ocassion.
The sooner the rules are changed to 30 minutes ball in play for both halves the better the game will be be.

I’ll admit rose tinted specs often kick in with a lot of posters. It’s always going to be an issue with such an emotive subject.

Personally I took issue with him simulating unconsciousness, just as I did with Drogba’s fake fit a few years back. It devalues the genuine head injuries, when some will think ‘is he faking it?’ due to the likes wolf crying pricks like Wesley.

I have seen us do the same on ocassion.
The sooner the rules are changed to 30 minutes ball in play for both halves the better the game will be be.
Nope. The sooner the laws are changed to say physios can just run on the pitch whilst play continues, the better. Only this will stop the play acting. And there’s zero reason why this could not happen.

Didn't Barnes get booked for his foot being nowhere near a Villa player who went down rather theatrically?

And just before the cross for our first goal, the way the Villa lad on the bench was geustaliting that he'd been elbowed deliberately when it was clearly nothing of the sort wasn't great.

I'm not sure that Villa have got the memo about VAR, because they appeared to be doing a lot of the sort of things that VAR was bought in to stop.

Barnes didn’t get booked for that

He got booked for dissent after being tripped in the centre as we broke forward and not getting a free kick for it
