Yep. Exactly this. Immediately before McGinn had spent five minutes screaming at the ref for not giving something. McGinn wasn’t cautioned. Barnes did the same and got booked.wilks_bfc wrote:Barnes didn’t get booked for that
He got booked for dissent after being tripped in the centre as we broke forward and not getting a free kick for it
Re: Wesley
Let's be fair and note that Villa had a player booked for dissent, as well. Barnes will always have shorter rope than most given the way he plays.Foulthrow wrote:Yep. Exactly this. Re: Wesley
Was excited when I saw this - thought it was going to be about Fred Wesley!
Re: Wesley
I might be misremembering, but weren’t Villa in possession in a decent position (their right wing by the 18 yard box) when the game was stopped for the “head injury”?
That would suggest that, if Wesley is a cheat, he’s terrible at it.

Re: Wesley
You are correct. Also, Villa unnecessarily, (in my opinion), gave the ball back to us on the drop.Greenmile wrote:I might be misremembering, but weren’t Villa in possession in a decent position (their right wing by the 18 yard box) when the game was stopped for the “head injury”?

You are correct - that’s why the drop ball was taken where the play was stopped

I thought this but didnt use it in my argument about what he had to gain from cheating cos I wasnt 100% sure and couldnt work out how Mee would have been up the pitch as part of the incidentGreenmile wrote:I might be misremembering, but weren’t Villa in possession in a decent position (their right wing by the 18 yard box) when the game was stopped for the “head injury”?

Im guessing Villa was breaking and/or Mee possibly on the way back from a corner
Re: Wesley
With some players, it's all about making everyone know they've been involved in an incident. Any club advantage is secondary.Devils_Advocate wrote:I thought this but didnt use it in my argument about what he had to gain from cheating cos I wasnt 100% sure and couldnt work out how Mee would have been up the pitch as part of the incident

And with some players it can just be that they are injured especially when Mee has kicked the ball in your face from inches away.Kgun5 wrote:With some players, it's all about making everyone know they've been involved in an incident. Any club advantage is secondary.
Anyhow I did this to death last night and truth is none of us know for sure
Re: Wesley
Of course this is true. I'd like to think I'm more level-headed about this kind of situation than most, but this one just didnt pass the smell test for me. I will never know for sure.Devils_Advocate wrote:And with some players it can just be that they are injured especially when Mee has kicked the ball in your face from inches away.

"Bloody Jon Moss"... A bloke stood in front of us as we kicked off said "Barnes will get nowt and will be booked today because that Bloody fat **** Moss hates him...."Foulthrow wrote:Yep. So when Moss showed Ash the yellow he turned around and shouted "Bloody Moss see I bloody told you Bloody Moss hates Ash he Bloody hates him"
I edited that and used the slightly less offensive word "Bloody"

Re: Wesley
Think the biggest gripe is that a player feigned being unconscious - not whether he got a kick or where he got a kick. Dean Smith confirmed he wasn't unconscious so why did he pretend he was? Also, when you get knocked out or lose consciousness, I don't think you get chance to think about it for a few seconds before deciding that is what's happened.
Wesley cheated. And as others have mentioned, this is particularly poor form when it's this type of injury.

Who said he pretended to lose consciousness? If he was dazed and in shock he may have just been flat out with his eyes closed not 100% with it and not fully aware of what was going on around himJakubs Tash wrote:Think the biggest gripe is that a player feigned being unconscious - not whether he got a kick or where he got a kick. Just cos peoples actions around him was concern for him being knocked out doesnt mean he had this big master plan.
When boxes get KO'd to the floor they will sometime lie motionless even though they are conscious but people will naturally think the worst and try and help them until they realise its not that serious. Are they pretending to be unconscious
Again none of us were on the pitch and saw and heard what exactly went on.

At least my point was consistent all the way through this thread, though.... Have a good afternoon.

I was more shocked El Ghazi went off "injured". I'd have been very disappointed if one of our boys couldn't continue after that challenge? Extremely soft and, as said above, sat on the bench trying to insinuate he'd been elbowed was embarrassing.
I thing Wesley cheated too.

Haven’t seen many boxers hit the deck face down head in hands, take a few seconds then roll onto their back and move arms to their side before lying motionless.Devils_Advocate wrote:Who said he pretended to lose consciousness? Only he knows why he feigned unconsciousness, most of us (bar you DA) just know that he did.
Edit - not forgetting his teammates rolling him into the recovery position, only for him to roll back.

Crikey DA you’re comparing a knock out punch from a boxer to the beach ball esque modern prem ball giving a stinger to the chops ?Devils_Advocate wrote:Who said he pretended to lose consciousness? Re: Wesley
Villa could yet pay the “ Fulham -esque” price for opening the cheque book to anyone with an exotic name and throwing them together hoping for magic. This lot don’t look like the sort who relish a battle in the trenches , I mean , where would Grealish find a salon...

I had forgotten that Wesley also tried to get Tarkowski sent off. An absolute nothing incident which resulted in him rolling around on the floor clutching his face.

Depite our "poor performance", we had 3 big chances to their zero and were comfortably ahead on the expected goals stat.

Some interesting comments from the Villa forum about their play acting:
"Deano needs to bang some heads together, stop rolling round and holding faces etc , that’s not Villa"
"Can you imagine how Ron Saunders would have reacted to these pansies."

And Deano complained about Nick Pope time wasting at goal kicks etc ..... when his lot were dropping like flies and wasting time with play acting and non-injuries...JohnDearyMe wrote:Some interesting comments from the Villa forum about their play acting:

Ffs Mason added 7 bloody minutes injury time ... what more do people want.
