Erik Pieters what a bargain
Another quality ball from Erik leading to another goal today
Erik is a class act and a great signing, made in our much maligned transfer window

Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
Left himself exposed far too often for me today. A lot more negatives than positives from todays performance.
Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
Hopefully he's not too old to learn from his mistakes today - backing off his man and giving him acres of time and space to whip his cross in for the goal.
Another great assist though.

Poor today.
Hope Charlie is back soon, for both us as a team, and Dwight.

He's done fine but starting to get found out now. Terrible play for both of their goals. Taylor in ASAP please.
Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
Excellent value for money. What did we pay? £1.5m for PL and international experience.
Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
An absolute liability simply can’t defend
Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
Loves a tackle and 3 assists in 7 games which isn't an easy task wouldn't question his defending but his positioning but he's certainly made up for it going forward.

Taylor is much the better player. The lad must be wondering what he’s done wrong.

Bit of a conundrum this guy. Sets up goals but gives them away at the other end

He's got a great cross and whats that three or four assists now?
But he was excellent v Norwich, but he's looked iffy away from the Turf

Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
Got caught out twice gave to much space and should have closed his man down
All be it he did put a fantastic inswinging cross in for the goal but swings and roundabouts dont help in this league
Switch off and you let the all team down
Another performance like that and it's got to be Charlie's shirt
But he could make amends and it was same with Wood 3 in two now in this league when he could have been rested
Dyche will no when to ring the changes and thank god for that UTC

Should not be in the team ahead of a Taylor. He’s good backup and can deliver a cross but he’s just not as good a player.

Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
We play a very narrow back 4 and I’m not sure if he is used to it. They played their widemen chalk on heels and the gap was far too wide at times. He’s only played 7 times and he’s had some excellent performances. I feel sure he’ll sort this out, look how long it took Taylor to come up to speed.

Been a great signing, not his best yesterday, but could have been mom against Norwich.
A tough call as I've always liked Taylor, but whoever claims the starting shirt Eric has already proved his worth.

Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
It’s a little like the Darikwa/Ward situation back in 2015. The understudy brought in to cover the main actgets the spot and keeps it, even though they are inferior to the first choice. Pieters, like Bardsley, is about as good a second string full-back as we could expect, but Taylor is the future, I think.

Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
At fault for their first and possibly the second but a crucial assist with a brilliant rushed cross and should have had another assist early in the game when Wood missed the header. Good signing but agree Taylor needs to come in when he's ready.
Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
Appalling defensively yesterday, Charlie Taylor is a far superior defender. It wasn’t just the winger who was beating him all ends up, it was the full back too. He’s just got absolutely no pace and so he either gets way too tight and then span away from, or he backs off far too much and gives all the time in the world for a cross.
To be fair to him though, when he gets up he can put a very decent ball in, and his assists contribution this season he been very pleasing.
But overall, anyone who really thinks Pieters is better than Taylor is either registered blind or Hibsclaret.

Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
Both crosses in which Villa scored from came from his side...
Check the goals we've conceded this season, a lot come from Pieters side, teams know he's a weakness and alway's attack down that flank.

It's a little frightening reading bad reports about our left back after watching Seamus Coleman for Everton yesterday. He was on fire yesterday, back to his best.

Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
So creates one goal puts another on a plate for Wood to miss and Taylor is far superior.
It’s a bit boring getting these threads wanting someone back in the team who is clearly not in the same league going forward every week.
Just trust in our great manager.
As for defensively better, I’m assuming you watched the masterclass against Norwich last week.
We could always bring Taylor in for the away games to keep it tighter and create nothing. There’s a reason we have scored in every away game...

Doesn't matter how many he creates if his defending is costing us goals down the other end. I thought Villa were targeting him yesterday, both goals and nearly all the danger was coming down his side.Hibsclaret wrote:So creates one goal puts another on a plate for Wood to miss and Taylor is far superior.

It’s not even that you think Pieters is any good, it’s just everyone knows you’ve got a very strange hatred of all things Charlie Taylor.
I’d love to know what has gone on there. My guess would be something to do with a picture in your sticker book that is missing an autograph, despite asking him...

I know you loved Ward but he's not here anymore.
Is it because he replaced Ward?
Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
But Darikwa was a right back and Ward was a left back, so its not a real comparison.Lord Beamish wrote:It’s a little like the Darikwa/Ward situation back in 2015. Sorry; I got mixed up. It was Lowton that Darikwa was keeping out. It was the change over from playing Mee at Left Back(dropping Duff to the bench)and bringing Ward in, along with Lowton taking his place in the Right Back berth that kicked on our Championship Campaign.Siddo wrote:But Darikwa was a right back and Ward was a left back, so its not a real comparison.

If Wood scores from the best cross of the first half, we win the game. It was a sitter put on a plate.jrgbfc wrote:Doesn't matter how many he creates if his defending is costing us goals down the other end. I’d love to know what Erik thinks if he reads these threads every week. Joins a new club plays well with the odd lapse every week and gets pelters. Charlie can’t make the bench for away games. Time to get behind the guy playing well in the shirt.
Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
So the team that scores first wins the game? Well by heck, someone better tell Villa that and award them two extra points.Hibsclaret wrote:If Wood scores from the best cross of the first half, we win the game.

Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
At the moment he is the weak link in the back 4
Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
Primarily I want my defenders to be able to defend. How they go forward is a bonus. Last season we looked extremley balanced, in Bardsley we had a a full back who was extremley solid and held back while Taylor on the other side made the marauding runs forward supporting McNeil.
Bringing Lowton back has seen us probe further forwards on the right hand side but I cant help but feel we have been penned in on the left with teams targeting this flank. A good offense is always a good defence and without Taylors surging runs forward we are struggling to push the them back on the left side of the pitch. Dwight is also suffering from this.
While I think Pieters has done OK and got some good assists. Taylor is a superior player in most aspects and gives a better balance to the side.

The thread was about Pieters being a bargain and what a bargain he is being an old has been from Stoke keeping the modern day Maldini out of the team

Some people arguing for, some against. Dyche meanwhile puts him in the starting XI.
I think we can probably agree £1.5m was a bargain, even If you think he should be on the bench.

Re: Erik Pieters what a bargain
He was indeed a bargain ,and took his chance well to play. While I’d prefer to have Taylor back , (he takes a man on and gets to the byline better than Pieetrs and worked well with McNeil ) Pieters hasn’t really done anything to deserve being dropped . Not sure if Taylor is still carrying a knock or there’s been a falling out

Ward only got 2 Prem League assists in his whole Burnley career. Cant believe Dyche stuck with the donkey for so long
