What was the song the Newcastle fans never stopped singing for the last 30 mins of the game?
Re: Leicester v Newcastle
Think it was a anti Mike Ashley song.burnleymik wrote:What was the song the Newcastle fans never stopped singing for the last 30 mins of the game?

So... was it a sending?
Re: Leicester v Newcastle
You can't tackle like that anymore, it's exessive force in the refs eyes and therefore a straight red.FCBurnley wrote:Clearly won the ball and his follow thru had to make contact. Did not look a deliberate attempt to injure the opponent. Hayden was just quicker and more committed. No red for me. Not even a free kick. If he didn’t win the ball then yes straight ref

Correct. Nothing to do with winning the ball it was the overall challenge.beddie wrote:You can't tackle like that anymore, it's exessive force in the refs eyes and therefore a straight red.

Re: Leicester v Newcastle
Yes-definitely a red. He was going for the ball (and got it) but he did it in a way where he wasn't in control of his follow through which could easily have badly damaged a shin bone. The tackler has a responsibility not to endanger the player being tackled - same even at rugby nowadays.
When Andy Carroll came on and Leicester were moving the ball around so nicely (and Newcastle players were having to run around a lot to try and cope with that), I suspected that he may hammer somebody in frustration but he never really got near enough to anybody to do any damage anyway.
I guess Newcastle will put this bad loss down to being down to 10 but they looked a poor 2nd even with 11. They're bookies' favourites for relegation now and have Man U at home and Chelsea away as their next two games. Very tough job for Mr Bruce.

Yep, but just how can a referee, who's probably never played a decent game of football, assess what level of force is acceptable?beddie wrote:You can't tackle like that anymore, it's exessive force in the refs eyes and therefore a straight red.

When the level of force endangers the safety of the opponent. I don’t know why a referee should have played football at a decent level and it’s not a realistic requirement.boatshed bill wrote:Yep, but just how can a referee, who's probably never played a decent game of football, assess what level of force is acceptable?

I'll be extremely surprised if Watford go downclaptrappers_union wrote:I think Watford and Newcastle have already taken two relegation places....
There are definitely 3 teams much worse than them.
Once they get a couple of wins on the board I would expect them to climb to safety.

But how does he assess it? And I do think it helps if he's played, and is close to the relevant action.Rileybobs wrote:When the level of force endangers the safety of the opponent. I don’t know why a referee should have played football at a decent level and it’s not a realistic requirement.

It's a very tight table so far, no one is more than one win away from a big rise up the table. The erratic form of some of the so called bigger teams, Everton, Mannil_desperandum wrote:I'll be extremely surprised if Watford go down

I'm not sure that we should be picking out relegation candidates as if we will not be involved in the bottom end scramble TBF.Pimlico_Claret wrote:It's a very tight table so far, no one is more than one win away from a big rise up the table.
