Didn't really hear any booing of Heaton where we were sat. But tbh it doesn't really surprise me, some of our fans really are thick as two short planks.

Agreed - glad the fans applauded Tom at the end of the game, he has been an outstanding claret whose contributions should not be forgotten. A good result and report.

Quite a lot where we were - I was absolutely stunned. Ignore him ahead of the game, fine, but the booing was ridiculous. Superb reception for him at the end and rightly so.jrgbfc wrote:Didn't really hear any booing of Heaton where we were sat. Re: REPORT: Another away game – another draw
Never heard any booing where we were in the lower tier, only cheers as his name was announced etc, and when he came into the goal prior to KO.
Not even when he celebrated their opening (dissallowed) goal or their actual opening goal....
But thats not to say there wasn't any ... just not where we were.

The booing of Heaton seemed particularly noticeable when he was preparing to take goal kicks.
All very odd even for some of our loons.

Was a bit salty of him to celebrate the goals

Plenty of people dishing out boos and abuse to Heaton around me in the lower tier. Most notably the guy behind me who was absolutely incensed - repeatedly shouting ‘you’re **** of the earth Heaton, **** of the earth’. Very very odd.

It's a strange mentality that some fans have. They expect a player who signs for us to be a fan for life, and never want to play for anyone else. Even if that means not being first choice, as was the case with Heaton.

There was some booing in the upper tier, but I’d say it was a small minority.ClaretTony wrote:I was in the upper tier but a lot of booing ahead of kick off.

Booing him was wrong but then so was applauding him at the end. He’s not one of us now and he deserted for coin. He’ll probably be playing in the Championship next season anyway. There goes any chance of an international career. Please stop the Heaton love-in, he’s gone and have done with it.

Don't see any point in booing former players. I wonder if anyone booed Jimmy Mac or any of the other ex Burnley players when they played against Burnley although maybe the circumstances of the transfers were different then.

I was in the upper tier and to be honest I didn't hear any booing pre match. The Villa fans were getting agitated with the length of time it was taking Pope to take goal kicks etc and I thought the booing stemmed from that, a bit of tit for tat. Don't think Heaton did himself any favours by celebrating the VAR 'goal'. Certainly left a bad taste in my mouth. That said the booing was a 'bit below the belt' for one of our all time greats.

How dare he celebrate the successes of his current team.ashtonlongsider wrote:I was in the upper tier and to be honest I didn't hear any booing pre match. Re: REPORT: Another away game – another draw
Applauding him at the end was showing him the respect he deserved for what he'd given us over the last six years. Deserted? I think it's more likely that he left because he was more likely to get regular first team football which, in turn, gives him a better opportunity to keep his England place. It's not a love-in, it's showing him some respect.houseboy wrote:Booing him was wrong but then so was applauding him at the end. He’s not one of us now and he deserted for coin. Re: REPORT: Another away game – another draw
Not if he’s in the championship next season Tony. I’m sorry mate but he left us for money. I have every respect for what he did for us but he went for money and while that is only natural and acceptable please let’s not get emotional about it. He did what he did for his own reasons and that is okay but he is no saint. He is no longer a Claret so his “future” is not our concern. His future will not be as England keeper. He is too old and he will not be playing in the PL next season.ClaretTony wrote:Applauding him at the end was showing him the respect he deserved for what he'd given us over the last six years. He could’ve been more loyal like me. I still do my paper round. I’m not doing another job for ‘money’. I’m a saint.
Re: REPORT: Another away game – another draw
The only reason he left was to ensure he got regular game time and I dont blame him for that and after yesterday ‘s result Villa have a good chance of staying up.
The reception he got was nothing to the reception Alan Stevenson got when he played against us for the 1st time after his transfer

Re: REPORT: Another away game – another draw
Given Pope's 4/5 year deal it seems likely that he was to be first choice. HEATS left having turned down a new offer and we have no idea what that offer was or its duration.
Heats wanted to play, Pope wanted to play Joe wanted to play-there can only be one playing and injuries to Keepers are not that common-so for me I suspect he went to be able to play AND maybe had a better offer (3 years as opposed to 2 + maybe more money)
Who wouldn't move jobs at 60 for more money until retirement? Heats I think is 33 to get on offer until he is 36 is not bad-if his deal is for 3 years and I think we stand to get up to £8.5million
