Park view pub

Post by jrgbfc » Tue Oct 01, 2019 2:43 pm

Are we safe to assume the talk of someone buying it was premature? Just been to the ticket office and had a bit of a nosey, I'll be amazed if anyone buys it now the state it's been allowed to get into. Should be the brewerys responsibility to keep the sight respectable.

That's what I thought, but the talk of someone buying it was weeks ago but still no sign of any activity. Not even a sold sign on the building.

So has it been bought from Heineken or are they still hoping to find some sap to invest in it themselves?

Isn't it a pub in Clitheroe that's bought it?

I cant understand why the club hasn't bought it? Would of been another source of income for a small price to pay..

Apparently everytime the club enquired the brewery jacked the price up to a ridiculous amount. But yeah it would be a perfect spot for the fan zone.

Surely if the brewery were putting it up for the football club it is easy enough to get someone to act as an independent buyer and then just sell it on to the club at the same price (if they really wanted it)

Yes, and 2/3 other pubs in the area.

I don't think it was a small price. Shame really because it would have given the fanzone a decent site.

The club have got a massive car park out the back and setting up a fan zone on that every few weeks costs a pretty minimal amount.

Owning a (not very profitable) pub means that you have to make it work and earn revenue every day, not just matchday. It's not ideally located for passing trade, you're not going to get away with premium prices and there's a lot of competition.

It may do well but it's not an area the club have any expertise in. If it's still tied to Heineken then they couldn't leverage their drinks buying to get cheaper drinks and there's limited economies of scale beyond that.

A stupid investment is a stupid investment no matter how many millions are in the bank.

It's a bit out of the way but if someone does a good job of turning it into a nice gastro pub with a decent menu, folk will travel to it from Cliviger, Tod etc.

The Kettle Drum and Fighting Cocks further up the road, don't seem to struggle... and when you think there are no pubs servicing that immediate area...

It struck me that the club could have bought it (assuming they could get it at a sensible price) and used it for the fan zone, bot inside the building and outside and actually simply kept it shut the rest of the time. If it operated exactly like the current fan zone, but with a permanent block at its centre then it wouldn't be drain and would actually be better. Maybe. It doesn't HAVE to be 7 days a week pub in that scenario.

And then they would have paid an astronomical amount for something they would use 19 times a season. The problem was it wasn't a sensible price, nowhere near.

Yeah, I do appreciate that the buying price would be crucial because the club would have to make that money back at some point and not after 20 years!! ;)

I'd say they are both nicer buildings in nicer locations. The Park View is probably a bit near the town centre so has to compete with the other offerings there.

It may well thrive as a good gastropub that becomes a destination (and I think that would be the best route for it). However, BFC have no expertise in that area and it doesn't tally with a matchday pub to replace the fanzone.
