Poor old Liverpool. That'll really make their eyes water.
My local side, Buxton, were booted out of a cup for doing the same thing a few years back.

Liverpool should have been thrown out and tie awarded to Franchise FC.

Sunderland did the same thing a few years back and they received a fine too. So nothing to do with so called 'top club bias'.

in other words you can field an ineligible player but it will cost you what you pay one of your players for two days of his time.

The equivalent of talking to them in a loud stern voice
Re: Liverpool fined £200,000
It's garbage. The rule should be straight forward, expulsion. Every team then knows before they kick a ball what the outcome will be should they break it.

Wow...that's right...hit them in the pocket so they will really feel it. £200,000 is absolutely pathetic for a club like Liverpool. The only way to deal with matters like this are instant expulsion from the competition or deduction of points if a league matter.

Last month Grays Athletic we’re kicked out of the FA cup for bringing a substitute on that was found to be ineligible.
There is no consistency. It’s wrong.

Bury were kicked out of the FA Cup a couple of years ago for the same thing.

There were mitigating circumstances:

Re: Liverpool fined £200,000
and they still get to trouser all prize money and gate monies.
Shocking! A multi-multi million pound company like Liverpool broke rules and should have been booted out
Same old Scousers always cheating and the authorities condone it.
if it was us it would have been much harsher!
No penalty before or since as been as severe as the one imposed on Burnley for things that Gray did at another club!

Re: Liverpool fined £200,000
Forgive my cynicism but who gets the 100k? and what will it be spent on?
Re: Liverpool fined £200,000
The "mitigating circumstance" appears to be that they knew they needed international clearance but couldn't get it done in time. I suppose it's relative resources that get taken into account - Liverpool perhaps are so busy that they can't afford the time to fill in the forms correctly, but Grays Athletic have so little to do that they are supposed to have loads of spare employees with nothing to do but fill in forms.Hipper wrote:There were mitigating circumstances:

The "mitigating circumstances" would make sense if they applied consistently down the leagues. If they don't apply consistently, it's a fraud on the fans.

I'm pretty sure teams like Grays and Buxton would rather be kicked out of a competition than receive a £200k fine

Re: Liverpool fined £200,000
Definitely no consistency if small teams get kicked out and bigger clubs get fined.
If you are handing out fines for a breach of rules it should be based on the ability to pay. So 200k to Liverpool should be 200 quid to Grays or they both should be booted out of the competition.
This is another thing they make up as they go along. Totally irrespective of what the clubs would prefer as Liverpool prefer to pay a fine and Grays prefer to get kicked out...if you can’t get off field rules consistently applied what chance have you got with onfield incidents....

Re: Liverpool fined £200,000
definitely should be consistent across the board, if it is a fine then it should be a sliding scale based on your last annual accounts, ohhh wait a min that means BFC would have a huge fine, let me think about this a little more, well run clubs should not be penalized.
So maybe in every case a replay but at the club who managed to field all the eligible players, regardless of who/where it is such that the non-offending team gets the gate receipts, extra pennies.

Re: Liverpool fined £200,000
Liverpool got fined £100,000. Grays got thrown out of the cup and lost all the prize money they had earned, which was £9,600 or so - almost one tenth of Liverpool's fine. (And they also lost the chance of earning more.)
Liverpool's income last year was about £455,000,000. Grays was £86,000. Pro rata, the equivalent fine would have been £19.24.
And what did Gray's do? The same offence as Liverpool - they played a player who han't got international clearance. But in Liverpool's case, it was their own player who they knew needed international clearance but they hadn't done the paperwork properly; the mitigating circumstance was that he had played a few reserve games and the FA hadn't noticed. In Gray's case, they had signed him from East Thurrock United, East Thurrock had signed him from Witham Town, and Witham Town had failed to obtain clearance from the USA after he had been playing US college football.
In Grays' case, the facts that the player had not declared his international past and that the FA had allowed him to play a full season in English football was not a mitigating circumstance.
The FA at the top level is corrupt. It needs cleaning out. It exists to serve the top clubs, and doesn't pretend to play fair with the lower ones.
