Devonshire Cat is a bit of a walk away but used to be good for away fans, not sure if it is still the case though

Re: Sheffield United (a) - General Info Thread
The Sheffield Tap is excellent, certainly the best boozer I have ever known situated at a train station. Has lots of Thornbridge brews - unless something has happened in the past two years since I was last there.
The Sheaf situated at Heeley Bottom (just off Chesterfield Rd) within walking distance of the ground is also excellent for ale connesieuers - it’s deep in Blades territory but was my local for 10 years and it’s a friendly place.
There’s a great place to eat at the foot of London Road - Kurdistan charcoal grill -excellent value and authentic - or Marsala fish kebab from the takeaway opposite.
Prob best not to wear colours in that part of town. It’s a bit rough and ready. Can’t wait for this one.

We went to the Rutland Arms last time, although we met up with some Blades friends beforehand so not sure on the away fans policy, I think it's alright though. Good pub, not far from the station and not too far out of the way to the ground.

Any more real ale /good beer recommendations either in Sheffield or on any train route out of Manchester- not necessarily bothered about going direct and stalybridge is always a favourite but not checked if that way is feasible yet

I think suggesting that Gascoigne played is stretching it a bit but he was definitely on the pitch. Not sure on parking. Never found it easy around Bramall Lane.Jakubs Tash wrote:Have been a few times previously.....but I think the last time might have been when Gascoigne played! Any advice re the best places to park?

I've only driven there once and parked in a multistorey between the ground and the city centre. NCP Furnival Gate.Jakubs Tash wrote:Have been a few times previously.....but I think the last time might have been when Gascoigne played! Any advice re the best places to park?

Haha, yes, Gascoigne was a complete liability that day!ClaretTony wrote:I think suggesting that Gascoigne played is stretching it a bit but he was definitely on the pitch. Not sure on parking. Never found it easy around Bramall Lane.
It's definitely tricky for parking around their ground as it's so central and there are lots of one way streets/roads etc. Best bet might be to there a little early and try and get some street parking and a 10 minute walk to the ground....

StalyVegas isn't really feasible. Unless you went up to Uddersfield and then Sheffield. But that's a long way round for a decent pint.Garnerssoap wrote:Any more real ale /good beer recommendations either in Sheffield or on any train route out of Manchester- not necessarily bothered about going direct and stalybridge is always a favourite but not checked if that way is feasible yet
If you get the slow train from manc you could stop off in Marple or Edale for an hour. Plenty of decent ale houses in Sheffield though...

Always do the Devonshire Cat less than a 10 minute walk to the ground from the pub think Gazza must have been in there before me that day.

Anyone travelling from the southwest for this who wants to share transport costs. Train prices looking pretty expensive. I'm in Gloucester.

Check both apps or Split ticket website or even the train company's website you will use.

Sheffield Police stating that The Howard and The Globe pubs will happily serve Burnley fans. They can be found opposite the train station. The Graduate, situated further up the hill, is also away friendly and is around 10 minutes walk to the ground.

These are the pubs we usually frequent. Pretty cheap as next to the university and then a straight path up to the city centre for a couple more in Wetherspoons/Yates’s etc.Leisure wrote:Sheffield Police stating that The Howard and The Globe pubs will happily serve Burnley fans. Re: Sheffield United (a) - General Info Thread
We've had to change plans due to some of the group wanting to watch the egg chasing world cup final. So we're watching it in Manny and then getting the train from there.
Seems to work out far better for time than changing at Leeds.

But my friend who lives in Sheffield said you can park easily round there on match days
Disregard this just put it in parkopedia and it states restrictions

Just been reading the Sheffield Tap in the train station doesn't allow football fans in with colours on. Strange for a train station boozer.

Could be busy at Sheffield, Leeds and Piccadilly stgationsa with us going to Sheffield and Wednesday fans going to Blackburn but I'm pretty sure that the respective fans will be wishing each other good luck for the afternoon!

I'm on Marple to Sheffield train at 1210. Don't have the legs for a 1mile walk to the ground and back after 2hour standing at the match. So ... bus from Railway station or bus from Meadowhall or is it a taxi for me ???

Granny I think you were joking, so I will forgive you!
A new one for most, including myself (a Sheffield resident) is the Lost Industry Tap - no real ale, but craft beer a plenty.
I'm reffing earlier in the morning, so will be taking in The Sheffield Tap, Rutland and LI Tap, all being well.
I would recommend not wearing colours, or hiding them, especially in the first of those...

We went in the Rutland on the way back but left without getting a drink. It absolutely stunk of cats.
The Howard was a decent pub and the globe too overcrowded before the game.
