Microphones stuck on your face

Post by CaptainKirk » Thu Oct 03, 2019 6:18 pm

I have been watching TV for more than 50 years and have always been able to here what the chap on telly was saying.
All of a sudden they all seem to be wearing these microphones stuck on their face as if they can't manage without them inside or outside.
Has someone got a contract making it compulsory?
Another thing - why are they in different colours?

Another thing that gets my goat is computers. I managed perfectly fine with a pen and paper. What are they for?

The TV companies decided, probably correctly, that off-screen commentators can be better heard through lip mikes (I think that's what they're called) than they can through wider range mikes (I don't know what they're called), probably because of less crowd noise and less chance of bigmouthed fatheads shouting into them. But then they failed to spot that using them when their face is visible makes them less user-friendly, partly because of the lack of lipreading element. Studio reporters don't usually have them, do they?

I thought they appeared when the Newscasters pitched their tents outside Westminster during all these recent Brexit shenanigans because they were being drowned out by the cacophony of sounds from the Pro and Ante-brexiteers outside Parliament.

Paper was invented as a way to get to the moon before rockets were discovered. If you fold a piece of paper 42 times then it'll reach the moon. Trouble is that it's easier to build rockets than to fold a piece of paper that many times.

That was BBC's explanation.

My solution would be simply to return to the studio. Being on that green meant you couldn't concentrate on listening to the news.
