Donald Smiths Burnley Market

Post by The Enclosure » Fri Oct 04, 2019 10:31 pm

Called in today for a black pudding as I have been doing for years only to learn that Donald and his wife Maureen are retiring on the 19th October after running his business for over 30 years.
I for one will miss calling in for a lean one and a natter with Donald about the Clarets or the weather. I am sure he will be missed by lots of Burnley folk.
A very happy retirement Donald and Maureen.

Bugger. They are a traditional part of the market and we will be lucky to have black pudding of such quality on demand as it where. BFC should get them on the Turf Bene n black.

Moved away a few years back, but always try and get a black pudding from Donald Smiths when in town for a game. Cornerstone of the market and the town.

I'm a regular at his stall. Disappointed his stall is closing and I don't think hes selling it on to anybody.
Good quality meats and friendly staff.
Could always go to Bury for a black pudd :?

Before getting a ST it was always a ritual for me to drive into town in the morning, get a ticket and then head to the market for a lean pud followed by a pint in the Bridge. Sorry to see it close. I really enjoyed them.

Sad to hear the shop is closing, where will we get black puddings now served by such lovely folk too.
Both deserve their retirements though, lovely couple.
Best wishes Donald & Maureen

Really sad news that no one is keeping the business going.such an ingrained part of my trips back to Burnley from Oxfordshire.

It would be an excellent established business I would have thought for a young couple to take on and having a ready made loyal customer base.
The position of the shop is perfect right at the entrance to the market.
